okay, so sometimes my computer (winXP) clock just slows down. don't know why or how. but it'll be fine for weeks, and then, like this morning, at 7 am it was about 45 min behind... and at 11 am it was just over three hours behind. so i reset it, and it's proceeding normally. done this like four or five times since november.
wtf?

First thought would be evilgremlin messing with ya...
or the battery on the mother board is die'n
power saving features can be a biotch sometimes. i just disable them all. i don't have xp, but that's been my problem with 95 and 98 until i turn them off.
it's also possible that your cmos hit an anamoly in the space/time continuum. resetting the clock will only fool the motherboard into thinking that it is 3 hours in the future, when actually it is still 3 hours in the past.

Didn't you watch Enterprise last night?
It must be micro-singularities.

If that's true, and your computer clock ever starts running fast, let me know, I'll have you look up a few stocks on E*Trade.
Seriously - do you have a "full-time" connection (DSL, cable)? Install a program called "Tardis 2000 (http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10106-100-4499478.html?tag=st.dl.10001-103-1.lst-7-1.4499478)". It'll keep your computer clock synchronized to the national atomic clock.

Another nice (and free) program that will sync your PC clock with various reference sites is Dimension 4 which can be downloaded from http://www.thinkman.com/dimension4/
I haven't tried it yet with XP.
this (sync the clock online thing) all sounds a lot like xntp, which most linux distros have had for quite some time. someone has been paying attention :P
