I have a big plastic bottle so full of spare change (and anything else my 2 year old can stuff in the hole) that I can't even lift it. I bet there is a couple hundred in there. Me and Ashley are saving for a trip to Italy.

We have a keg sized jar full of pennies. Wonder how much that would be worth.

I have no idea how much I have in pennies. But I DO have a genuine Piggy Bank - how many of you can say THAT?!? Hmmm...?

We had a 5 gallon water jug for change. We needed it for a funnel for the turkey fryer at Christmas, so we rolled the coins that was in it. It had only about 3 inches in it. We had about $86. It was mostly pennies (I used a lot of the silver out of it when I was working for UPS for vending machine sodas/food/candy). But since then, we bought a little change sorter and the kids sort at night. Since Christmas, I have deposited about $50 in change.

do i have to roll the coins, or can i just bring a heaping jar of coins to my local bank?
Those coin star machines seem like ripoffs at 7%
I want to do this turn in as cheapyl as possible

I want to do this turn in as cheapyl as possible I wrap the quarters and take them to the bank, but I take the rest to Coin Star. This way I limit the effect of the 7% fee. The 7% on the rest is not worth my time.

one time i had like $20 in change....all pennies.
i usually burn up quarters, dimes, and nickles in vending machines, etc. but pennies, they just build up endlessly.

I got a speeding ticket once, and decided to pay them in pennies. I got $60.50 (131 rolls). The clerk was not happy. She got her boss and if looks could kill, I would've been dead.

I was told by him to see the judge in the next room (traffic court). He asked me if I was speeding, I said 'Yes sir'. He asked how many pennies I had, and I told him. He said 'We thank you for your money'.

The clerk's boss told me to write my ticket number, name, and phone number on each roll. I told him to pick a roll up and turn it over. I had already put labels on each roll (I put them label side down so he couldn't see them). He threw the penny rolls in a box and took them. The judge was looking at him and smiling. Some people have no sense of humor.

The outcome of this was that they would no longer take pennies for traffic tickets. I don't know if this was legal. If I would've gotten another ticket, I would've paid this time in nickels.

While pennies are legal tender, most states have a law that limits the amount of coins a government office has to accept.

My bank will always take my loose change, no matter how many jars I bring in. They just aren't that busy anyway.

I read a random fact once that said that 50% of all pennies wind up in the landfill.

Hmmm, anyone by chance know where the Treasury Department's landfill is? :heh:

It's my understanding that pennies are not legal tender. No one has to accept more than 10.
The judge probably only accepted the pennies because he thought it was funny.

My rolled coins came to $126 last time I took them in.
I spent $10 on a sorter, which means I spent $1.12 more than if I had paid the 7%. But I still have the sorter for the next time...

I can never save up more than 10 dollars or so. Everytime I notice that the bottle or cup or whatever I'm using, has enough money in it to buy me lunch, I go out and spend it.:(
