im looking for a small mp3 player, that takes any sort of memory card.

The Nomad II MG from Creative Labs is a great mp3 player, and the new one that will be out soon has firewire support. Note: the Nomad II should not be confused with the Nomad I, which is the giant CD player sized 20GB model.
The Nomad II comes with a cradle for charging and sending/receiving files and has 64MB built in memory, plus it accepts Smartmedia cards. Usually goes for about $200 retail, I think, but you can probably find it for less on pricegrabber or something.

Yeah, my bad, you're right, the Jukebox is the CD player sized one, comes in 20 and 6 GB flavors. Soon to be 40 GB and Firewire support. Norm wants.

I'm not aware of any portable MP3 players that use CompactFlash storage (and no, PocketPC devices don't count), although there are a few players that use mini-CDR's like the Compaq iPaq PM-1 unit. (Yes, iPaq isn't just PocketPC stuff).
(Info on that iPaq device can be found here (http://athome.compaq.com/showroom/static/ipaq/pm1.asp))
if you have a mac or access to a mac.. i recommend the ipod
otherwise go for the Nomad II mg.. thats what i have, and i really enjoy it ;) :D

get an ipod w/o the mac. just use Xplay software

Never used the software though, my ipod runs seamlessly on my mac:P

I dunno, the iPod is cool and all...but has the price come down lately? If it's still at its original price point, I'd say that the Creative Labs Jukebox is a better deal. Starts at twice the storage and is about a 100 dollars less.

the ipod is $369 at the apple website. you just have to be a student to get education prices.
remember it's got firewire. Instantaneous playlist updating. And you can load 5 gigs in under 10 minutes. now imagine using usb like the nomad. it would take hours my friend to load all of your music or change playlists.

Aren't there portable mp3 players that can read CD-RW? I've never looked into mp3 players much.
