okay, so positiverolemodel and i want nodamnedsense to officiate our marriage next fall...

have any of you ulc ministers actually tried to do this before? it seems that the illinois loaw just requires taht you register at the county clerk's office, and be a "minister in good standing" with your church. so it should be fine, but i was wondering if anyone had tried this and encountered any problems. i figger i'll pop the $25 to buy him his "official looking" credientials with the wallet card, etc, just to prevent him from looking like a doofus when he goes in to register...

I don't see why it wouldn't work. According to their website, they are an officially recognized church by the US Government.

that's what i'm thinkin, too... it certainly SHOULD work, but that doesn't mean some dumb civil servant at the county clerk's office won't decide to be a butt about it... i'm thinkin if he has the spiffy-lookin credentials and doesn't mention "hey i signed up for this on the internet" (no mean feat considering the way he tends to run his mouth) it should be fine...

have the minister send the ulc an email with their name and when they were ordained. they will send the minister a letter of good standing with the church. the minister then needs to take that letter to the county clerk and will have to pay a couple of bucks to get a marriage liscense. once they get that, they are officially allowed to marry people. this is what me and my friend had to do.
