Nothing wrong with spending money on a nice suit. I love the way my Zegna suit feels. There's nothing else like it.

Well, here's a way of getting 4 times the usage out of your 1 pair of underwear. Just remember there are 4 major "sides" to a pair of underwear. The front, back, inside front and inside back. As long as you make sure a different underwear "side" is facing your body's important "side" each time, you'll be able to save up a lot of laundry money to eventually afford your second pair of underwear. And Oh what a happy day that is. celebrate people. celebrate!

My suit is italian, navy blue, 3 button. Yah, it is kind of expensive, but I need it for interviews (yes, I will be entering the workforce in 3 short months) And sad to say, but looking good IS a big part of whether or not you get a job. I just hope its worth it.

I don't believe in shopping at Goodwill unless I really need to. I just think its something for the less fortunate, and that we shouldn't clamor to get "da good stuff" that is there for them. Like, I'd be pissed if I donated a couple of nice pair of jeans or shirt that I didn't need only to see some fool roll up in a nice ride and pick out a bunch of good stuff including my donated piece of clothing. Of course that rarely happens, but I'm just saying. I wouldn't shop at Goodwill.

Could be a big mistake. You'll likely be wearing a more expensive suit than the person that is interviewing you. They'll look at you and think that with a suit like that you will be wanting their position. ;)

Personally I prefer the 3 button suits

Don't forget, come tax time next year the cost of your interview suit is deductable. Legimate job search expense.
Don't know where you bought the suit but make sure your tailor gets it right. Nothing makes a great suit look worse than a bad fitting. That's why I prefer Brooks Brothers. Their suits have goten cheaper in the last few years and they seem to know how to make them fit just right.

How exactly do you get half a G out of a suit? Do you use Gain, Tide, bleach? I would guess that you would dilute the solution used to get a G out. What were you doing that made you drop half a G? I usually hold on to my G carefully. Once I dropped a B on my pants and had to bleach them to get it out.

But ON Topic, Sounds like a great suit. Next time you are in Vegas (this goes for anyone), check out some of the stores here. They have some great prices on suits.

Last year my ex-girlfriend convinced me that a wedding I was going to be attending was not worthy of the old dress jeans and jacket combo that had saved me so many times in the past. So I go the Mens Warehouse "just to look" and walked out with a $900 Hugo Boss suit. :neartears Needless to say I looked like a mob boss at the wedding, but since then I have only worn it once. Not sure if I can say it was worth it, although any formal event in the future I will be prepared for.

I agree...for myself, I'm all crazy with computer hardware - I'll drop 500 easily for a computer.
but I've been taking forever putting together a home theater system - dunno, it seems like I'm spending so much money on a low end $300 receiver, when I can blow money so easily on a computer...
dunno... :-/

ok, i'll start out saying that i don't know where you're interviewing, but quite frankly, i think that spending more than $250 or so on a suit is a waste.
basically, if you look, you can find quality suits that look good for under $300. and the marginal difference that you gain in spending greater amounts of money are not that noticeable, unless you are interviewing with the TOP brokerage firms in NYC or Chicago or something. i mean, if you're looking for jobs that start in 6 figures, then the expense may be justified, but i really do not think that in other cases it's going to matter.
in a lot of "lower-level" places you interview (where the person who is interviewing you is wearing a $300 suit), they probably won't even notice the "special" things that make a suit expensive. and if they do, they may wonder why you spent so much money on the suit -- are you running up huge debts (which may make them question your judgement or how well you handle money) or are your parents giving you a bunch of money (which may make them question whether you know how to handle responsibility or if you've been pampered)?
anyway, my key point to everyone else out there who hasn't spent so much on a suit but is thinking about doing so....look around. find something in a classic color and a classic style, get good shoes to go with it, and a good shirt and tie, and if you shop the sales, you can probably get completely outfitted for under $300.
just my opinon.

Now that you've got the good suit, make sure you care for it properly. One thing to remember is to get the jacket and pants dry cleaned as a pair. You'll wear/soil the pants more often as you actually wear them rather than the jacket which just gets worn in and hung up. However, if you just clean the pants, over time the suit will wear unevenly, not what you want.
As for the others who say you may have gone overboard. Don't worry. Nobody will pass on hiring you because you have a better suit at an interview. If anything it makes you look like you are really pulling out all of the stops in going after the position.
In the future shop around. Good suits can be had in the $300 range. But hey, I'm sure you look like quite the pimp in the new one.
