I found this a few days ago linked off a site; unfortunately I don't remember what one it was otherwise I'd give proper credit. Now that I know it works (from opening Morpheus) I've even dug through all my Internet Explorer history trying to find the site, to no avail.

I've done this on:
A PC running IE 6 under WinXP Pro. I'd assume it works under all versions of IE and Windows however I don't know for sure. But, considering it's a *basic* setting, I don't see why not.

...

Basically, Morpheus uses IE data/info/technology etc. (if you bother to look at any screens in Morpheus "about Morpheus"). I found this setting the other day that gets rid of all ads in the Morpheus window itself, and consequently - I've also not had ANY popup ads either. What a fix. :heh:

Just go into your IE "Internet Options" (either under Control Panels or under the Tools menu in IE), then click on "Security" and then "Restricted Sites"...which will allow the button for "Sites" to become an option. Click on "Sites", then in the space where you can ADD a site, type in http://ads.musiccity.com and click on "Add". It should now be added in that window, and now you can OK that screen and exit out.

...

That's it. You should now not see ANY ads in Morpheus. The places at the bottom of the window where ads USUALLY appear will now be permanently black.

Totally awesome! I hate coming back to the computer with dozens of ads filling up my screen! Thanks!

Even though it's only sorta-related (as pertaining to popups) I wanted to mention that a great program I've started using to get rid of *other* popups (i.e. while just using IE regularly) is a nifty program called "PopUp Killer" (http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10059-100-7834804.html?tag=st.dl.10001-103-1.lst-7-1.7834804) and one of the best things about PopUp Killer is that it can be customized, you can have it ask you if a window is a popup or not (so in the future it will allow or not allow it), it's small/doesn't hog resources, plus one of the *best* features is that you can submit and download lists of banned windows etc., which is nice 'cause you can just merge with the list and you'll have all the windows that are junk and it will automatically close them.

Just figured I'd mention it; I've done a good amount of MP3 downloading of albums sites lately and it's utterly ridiculous the amount of popup windows you get; sometimes it's more than 6 depending upon what site you're on...and you close one of them and three more pop up. *gah* it's annoying... :dodgy:

Heh, no prob. ;) I usually post most of the time at a forum on ezBoard that I am one of three admins of (two buddies of mine are the other two) but ezBoard has been suckin' lately plus I've been hella busy with work so I don't get to post much anywhere anymore. BUT lately I've been up late, doing the usual MP3 hijinks and I've been lucky enough to find some sweet info lately that I know my fellow GotApex visitors/members would like to see. :D I'll probably start posting here more often 'cause so far I've found more info to post on here lately than I have for other sites heh...:P

Yeesh, you got morpheus yet you still download off those "elite" sites with a kazillion ads? I try to stray away from those, considering many times, most the links dont work. There are a few that I use, that have very few popup ads, and have good selection, if you like that stuff. mp3wma.net (http://www.mp3wma.net) MusicLover (http://www.themusiclover.com)

As for that program, eventhough it may take up very little resources, I can't stand anymore programs on my system! My screen is usually cluttered enough as is =)

I do go to Musiclover occasionally, but the fact that I own or have downloaded the entire CD of 98% of the songs that are on the "lists" makes his site not too great anymore since I usually DO download full CD's.

Anyway, to answer your question/thoughts from above as to why to use sites for downloading stuff ~

Two words: pre-release CD's.

'nuff said.

I downloaded the Alanis Morissette "Under Rug Swept" CD three weeks ago...which is more than a month before the store release of Feb. 27th. That's *precisely* why I still bother with sites a good portion of the time...they get albums before half the people on Morpheus even know they're available. I also downloaded the Bad Religion CD "The Process Of Belief" CD over a month and a half ago...umm, yeah - it just came out in stores two weeks ago. :heh:

Might I suggest:
http://www.simplemp3s.com/albums/albumsmain.htm
http://www.supermp3s.net/fullalbums.htm
(both have many prerelease CD's)
http://www.mp3delivery.com/albums.php
(one of my new faves 'cause it has an entire album archive covering MANY sites and it shows what site has what album, all indexed by artist then album title)

Sure you're going to have popups (a few, if you don't have PopUp Killer installed) on each of them, but the fact that you get GOOD rips BEFORE the release date is why I like them. With all honesty, EVERYONE has downloaded a sheisty version of an MP3 here and there off ANY file sharing service - doesn't matter if it's WinMX, BearShare, CuteMX, Morpheus/KaZaA, Napster, etc. But, THIS WAY I've ALWAYS gotten perfect MP3 rips. Anytime I download an album off any of the three above sites, I don't have to listen to it beforehand 'cause I KNOW it'll be good quality, have normal volume levels, not have clicks/pops/skips, etc. When I download anything off Morpheus, I ALWAYS listen to it before I burn it because of the numerous times I've downloaded stuff and burned it without listening first, and having to throw away a CDR because a song skipped, ended too soon (wasn't complete), etc. Dunno about you guys, but that sort of stuff pisses me off. :P

~Just a thought.

It seems like morpheus is getting slower and slower, and more and more people are using the "don't allow others to see my songs" option so the selection is getting worse too. It's still very usable for popular songs, but for obscure and old foreign songs, I still think Audiogalaxy has an amazing collection. If you can put up with the slow downloads, there really isn't a song you can't find(except every once in a while! :heh: thanks NuTs62!! )

So everyone, how big is your mp3 collection? Sounds like zero2dash has quite a hefty one. I enjoy gettin all those pre-releases also, but I got tired of clicking one by one. It makes me feel like pre-Napster days, when I was still on dial-up. And besides, I can get those pre-releases on those sites, once people like yourself download from all those websites and share it! :heh:

Woohoo! I got my own fanclub ;)
Heh, takes some searchin, but 99% of the time, you should find it if you at least know the name. And as for the ones who don't allow others to see, or dont share, that'd be me! :D I haven't touched AudioGalaxy since the times when it was only web-based (when it really sucked!). And as for the slowness, I haven't found a really fast service since Napster. No longer can I download at 150k/sec from one person. I guess I'll hafta settle for downloading at 3k/sec from 50 different people

If something is free, why pay for it? You aren't necessarily guaranteed higher quality by paying for it. You only get faster speeds. Well, it wouldnt' make a difference to me considering I set my queue, leave my computer on and download all night.

Just wanted to say that most of the full albums/pre-release sites now use Java pages for the downloading, not only to keep leechers off but also so the identities of where the stuff is *at* can be hidden so it's not taken down for violating *rules*. In most cases you click on one link and it opens a Java window where you select all the songs, pick a directory, and click "Download". Easy as pie. ;)
