Apex/Leon,
Just to let you know, here is a great deal for the RIO PMP-300. The Diamond Rio at MobShop.com is selling for 103.95. On top of this price, the manufacturer has a $50 mail-in rebate, and with the Visa $25.00 off program, the price falls to $28.95. Not bad.
As a side-note, beware the Visa offer, as it only applies to purchases which exceed $100.
To make this work at MobShop, you must reserve the MP3 player at the 103.95 price, preventing a transaction at 99.95, which in effect would nullify the Visa rebate.
If you find you cannot save a spot because the price has fallen below $100 or there is no save spot left above 99.95, try again next week by reserving a $103.95 spot early.
Go Apex!

I could be wrong, as I have never bought anything through mobshop, but I was under the impression that even if you reserve an item for a higher price if enough people buy it to get it down to a lower price everyone pays the lower price. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I think shotime1 is right. That's the way I understand it too. I think the only way to get it for $28.95 is to make sure the cycle ends at $103.95, which means waiting to join until the last minute and only if it's a good distance from dropping to the $99.95 level.
Unfortunately I can't take advantage of this deal because I don't have a US-issued Visa card. Us Canadians are always getting the shaft! http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/frown.gif

could you please explain the $25 visa deal? is that only with the blue card, or is it a completely different thing? thanks.

Basically it's $25 off any purchase over $100 if you use a Visa card. I emailed mobshop and they said that $99.95 doesn't count (this was before I found out it had to be a US-issued card).
For more details go to: http://www.gotapex.com/deals
All the info's on the front page.

Has anyone seend the Rio 300 go for more than $100 on Mobshop?
FYI, Mobshop is currently on pointclick.com's list of 10% off stores, so you can get the Rio 300 for $40 if you can't apply the VISA rebate...

That memory does not work well at all with the Rio, or atleast mine for that matter. Some of the songs on the card skip, and when I use the rio diag util, it says that part of the memory is bad, and unusable.

NOT GOING TO WORK! NONE OF THE AFOREMENTIONED DEALS WILL WORK!
"the manufacturer has a $50 mail-in rebate" NOT ANYMORE, THEY DON'T. The rebate only applied to rio 300s purchased before june 1st, so don't buy a rio 300. it's not worth it without the rebate.

The rebate has been extended for purchase through 9/30/00 -- see http://www.s3.com/customer_carecustomer_servicecoupon.htm .

When you save a spot, you are charged the amount you saved for. To ensure your purchase remains above $100, save a spot at the 103.95 level. That level is likely to have passed, hence you can try again next week.
The $50 rebate offer is, as stated previously, still in effect.

Shaun,
Sorry buddy, I'm pretty sure that isn't the way it works:
I usually hate to quote a web site verbatim, but here from the mobshop web site.
http://www.mobshop.com/glossary#closingprice
"Closing Price
The lowest price for a product reached by the end of a Buy-Cycle. This is the price all members of the Buy-Cycle are charged, even if the closing price is lower than the price they committed to when they placed their order."
All "Save-A-Spot" does is save you a spot *if* a price drops to a certain level. For example, if an object starts off at $100, you may only want it if the price hits, say, $90. So you would "Save-A-Spot" with the price of $90. (BTW I like Mercata's better where you can name your price, rather than price levels.. oh well.)
If the price of said object drops to $90, then you are entered into it. However, if it continues to drop, then you get the lowest price.. see the above definition of closing price..
Now I noticed during the current buy cycle that they are quite a few orders away from the 99.95, so you might just get lucky.... then again, the buy cycle is open until Saturday.. so you might not..
Just want to set the record straight..
peace,

By the way, not that I am promoting more sales from mobshop, but they have a 32MB cycle opened up, and only three more orders are necessary to drop it to 58.95.. I, like a fool, ordered during their last cycle and paid 64.95 for it, but with no shipping & tax, it's a good deal.
The cycle is at http://www.mobshop.com/cycles?cycle_id=292453
and is open for 2.5 more days..
for those of you ordering a PMP300 this is the maximum smart media card memory amount that it will accept...
good luck.. apoligizes if this is breaking some rules or something..

I really didnt like this player..it seemed so cheap, and I returned mine to Best Buy...IMO, buy a nice one or none at all...32MB is useless...
I guess though if youre GONNA buy it, this is a good price...

Jaybittle is right. I've bought a lot of stuff through Mobshop for a long time (since they were operating as Accompany.com) Just like Mercata.com, everyone gets the lowest price. For example, I reserved 8MB smart media cards for 9.95, I was charged 7.95, the lowest level (Yes, Accompany.com once sold 8MB Smart Media cards for that price, one time deal though).

Justin,
Did you try other 32MB Smart Media cards in your RIO? I'm a little concerned because I just ordered it, but I am hoping for better results than had..
For me, the RIO is part toy, part useful device.. This is how I figure.. They are selling the RIO500 for 204 or so on mobshop, but for $49 & ~65 for a 32MB card, you get a RIO500.. yea I know features are different and the such, especially the USB connection of the RIO500.. but $100 less is $100 less..
As well as I want to use it to start running, and all other CD walkman and the such seem to skip (and I am *not* going back to cassette players.. barf!)
To be honest, as soon as the Genica MP3/CD player and the others come out, I will buy one of those for my "long trips".. but for the short 1 hour jogs or so, then the RIO300 + 32MB card is fine by me..
oh well, i'll let you know Thursday how it works out -- that's when mine is scheduled for delivery..

The card just doesn't work with mine for some reason or another, I called Delkin Devices for an RMA # and they never called back when they said they would, so I just gave up.

No, this has nothing to do w/Amex.
Only Visa.
This is simply:
Buy item > $100.
Pay w/Visa card.
Get $25 off.
