I hate to sound like a moderator but the subject line was sort of misleading. You should put something like, "Does anyone know where to download movies online?"
or something similar to that.
..just a thought..

Just get on IRC, and do a search for VCD.. hope you have a broadband connection.. 600+MB each... and POOR quality.. just wait for the DVD to come out
divx rips rule...

I will IM you later AJ, at work now. Personally, I dont think the quality is that bad, especially if you dont mind downloading the VCD. Even better are the Divx rips, picture perfect, but only for ones on dvd now

I have seen, ummm I mean heard of movies
out there on the 'net. OT, but many
of these are ripped into the new divx
AVI format. Does anyone have a good way
of getting these to MPEG1 format for
burning onto a VCD? Someone told me that
"Gone in 60 Seconds" was out there already
upped in VCD format. Quality is amazingly
good but shopped on the sides. Same good quality with "Gladiators" CD1
but it is missing the 4th file of the
second CD. "Dinosaurs" was one that is out there as a AVI. Seems this new divx AVI format(not to be confused with the defunct Circuit City DiVX rental DVD system) is quite good but cannot be played on a DVD/VCD player unless encoded in MPEG1 first.
Gladiator Disk 2 is missing a disk?!?! Uhh, that still means the quality is the same as the 1st half, you just can unrar it cause you dont have the complete movie. Personally, I really enjoy the Divx movies, usually half the size of the VCDs and same quality. How? Cause the audio is encoded in mp3 and the video in mpeg4 codec. They work well. But a converter from divx to mpeg? Divx is a brand new format, try going to the divx home page, http://pc.divx.st and looking there. I dont know if one has been made yet. Or check on IRC, there is most of the stuff there

Another good place to find them is on the newsgroups. I use a program called Forte Agent, which ia a GREAT newsgroup reader and get all I want off there.

But I prefer the regular vcds, so they can play on a stand alone vcd player.

It's only for the `leet (eLiTe/elite, whichever you prefer). But i'll let you in. Essentially it's a place where people go to chat, it doesn't require proprietary ISP's (see: AOLame). In any case, your best bet is to download mIRC (www.mirc.com). EFNet is the most popular place to hang (at least for me), and then there's DALNet.

The telesync wasn't too good quality wise, but it was a kick ass movie. And I'm also very surprised that Boys & Girls Screener came out so soon. Reminds me of Cruel Intentions screener time. Gotta hand it to TFE.

God, it was a pain in the a$$, but I got the Usual Suspects AVI file. But then I remembered... it's free. So the process suddenly wasn't that bad. The quality was good (a DVD rip).
I feel fine about doing this, because I have two copies of the movie (VHS DVD). So this is just one for me to take with me. Only 638MB. One disc http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
My favorite movie of all time.

Just wanted to clear something up that divx does not have to be from dvd's, it is mpeg4 like y2j later said. Also if you were wanting to go from divx (mpeg4) to another mpeg format, you would have to first decompress the file to avi and then back to whatever compression you want, but quality would be all jacked up since some quality is lossed in the decompression stage.

Some observations:
- Don't post your ICQ or AIM #/username on public boards.
- Don't d/l DiVX movies from web sites. Your IP/domain gets logged easily.
- Instead, use Gnutella (search Google for "gnutella"). Harder to get instant gratification but it offers more anonymity (not total).
- Use Gnutella's watch feature to look at the searches flow through your node (read gnutella site for more info). You'll gain insight on how to search for what you're looking for based on other people's search terms.
I haven't d/l'd any movies, but I've heard this works pretty well.

I may be a "newbie" that some people love to bash on, but I have some info that some may want. Besides just downloading movies, you can also easily rip your own movies. For instructions go to http://dvd2vcd.cjb.net/ and for more utilities go to http://start.at/opium. Here is another d/l link that is good, http://home.conceptsfa.nl/~taverne/site2.htm

My father (he's helping me with financing, $379/month for 48 months, i'm paying $200/month and he pays the rest and insurance etc) is a pretty hard guy to talk to....and...it was pretty much a spontaneous buy. Everytime my mother and I talked to my father about purchasing a car, he would just start making some stupid comment and saying I had to pay for everything myself (and I really couldn't afford it, I don't have that much time to work with this many classes and all..). Anyway, one day we went to Honda and Nissan, my father wanted me to buy a Nissan Maxima but I said I couldn't afford it, so it was between the sentra and civic...i really didn't know jack about cars back then because I never really looked into them (i knew I had no chance of ever getting a car..or so I thought back then). And, since civic's were in fad (and those older sentras look butt-ugly) I bought a civic sedan, not knowing any better, before my father changed his mind and I ended up with nothing..the next day i go bragging to my asian friends at college, and they start laughing and calling me an idiot, but alas, it was too late http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/frown.gif ... and since I really can't afford to trade it in, that's that...oh well, once I graduate (and if I make enough money) I plan on buying a new car, but this'll have to do for now. I stopped by a Sports Authority today and got to witness someone trying to park an Excursion... I had to laugh. He ended up diagonally into the parking space, even after working at it - the car's just humongous. I heard it fits 9, which is insane, but that may be a "if some people don't mind sitting between the seats" estimate - I'm not sure on the total number of seats. I don't really like the look of it much - I personally am more of a fan of the Suburbans and Explorers, but that's just me. It might also be due to the fact that I got to drive an Eddie Baur (if I spelled that wrong, I'm... not sorry at all ;p) edition which was ridiculously extravagant (that also looks spelled wrong... hrm).
