I was looking at the same site, too cheap to be true. $222 and includes a memory stick and extra controller. Bah!

Checked on Better Business Bureau's website, no listing for this company. Have you ever bought anything from a retailer with .org? I certainly haven't. Looked around their website, they say they're moving in to their offices April 5, 2002. The "great deals" are good only to March 31st, 2002. The method of payments are Credit Card (through Western Union), and MoneyMover.com (auctions only). Both of these places probably wire them the money immediately. Those are my assessments of the situation. If you wish to proceed, I wish you the best of luck, but don't say I didn't warn you!

This is from their About Us (http://www.superb-bargains.org/about.htm) page

We're a newly-formed sister concern company of Gaming Consoles, Inc. (based chiefly in Turkey) who deal exclusively in Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation-2 systems. Operating in 35 countries with more than 650 retail outlets (mainly in Asia, South-East Asia and the Middle-East) we manage to buy these products in huge bulk amounts and hence get excellent rates. Since this is our first venture as online retailers we're offering great prices as a promotional effort, this brings us to reason #2;

Since we're new to the USA we've currently rented offices in Chicago, IL and Rockville, MD areas but have not yet moved in, As soon as our offices are fully operational we'll list our full address and contact numbers on the website. Hopefully we shall be completely operational in the USA by the 5th. of April '2002.

Be cautious

some of these asian and mid east countries are very very low income. $300 for even a well off or (relativly) wealthy family may be too much for entertainment when you can get a computer and bootleg games at literally pennies on the dollar. in these areas many goods have to be price adjusted so the manufacturers can make a profit and people can afford to buy the system and games and accessories. so if this company is legit, it may be wise to make sure the systems are region 1 instead of 2,3,5 or 6.

Well...the site looks decent (at least it isn't hosted on geocities :P )
but I would be suspicious for anything that sells 100+ cheaper then the retail value that SONY sets. I worked in a video game store once and I know that stores make next to nothing on gaming consoles, and there certainly isnt a $100 mark-up. Even if they purchased these legitly in other countries in order from them to work here they would need a mod-chip or something and since they are "guaranteed to be sealed" it makes u wonder...
It's either a scam, they are stolen, or..."this is our first venture as online retailers we're offering great prices as a promotional effort"

somebody go buy it and tell us wat happens, i want a 222 PS2 =/

The XBoxes are only $180 (!). I am REALLY tempted to pricematch an Amazon purchase.... (With Amex). Just wonder if there would be problems with the "bundle" -- the bundles are IDENTICAL (down to the name) but I wonder if Amex would say they couldn't match bundle prices...? Anyone have any ideas/tips/experience?

Good luck to those who try.. =P I'm sure I'll be hearing from you guys in these forums soon if you do!

bumping this because its a great deal for people with Amex.

just got my refund check today for $244.99 -- bought the xbox adrenaline pack from amazon for $500 and price matched the same pack against superb-bargains.org for $255.

That's a new Xbox, extra controller, 3 games, and 6 month sub to electronic gaming for less than $300.

Tolonen

That site's saying they're out of stock now. Does that mean Amex won't pricematch anymore? I hope they still will, damn!

Justin42
03-24-2002, 07:09 PM
When you guys are PM'ing to Amazon, how do you do it? Does Amex let you do it as a bundle price, or do you have to do each item individually?

ME TOO! ME TOO!....

Details....Curious minds wants to know...

aldric
03-25-2002, 09:25 AM
(leemaj -- been around for a long time, but never found anything relevant to post :) )

Here are the steps I took to PM'ing the Amazon Xbox package against the one offered on superb-bargains.org

1. Purchase your package of choice from Amazon.
2. Next day, call Amex's Pricematch Hotline (1-800-557-8317) and notify them that you'll be pm'ing a video game system you purchased on Amazon. Tell them you just purchased the system and found a cheaper one advertised on a different website. They'll give you a reference # and ask you to send in print outs of the advertised site.
3. Print out pages from www.superb-bargains.org; I printed out the main Xbox systems page, as well as the detail page for the Adrenaline pack (which lists the package detail, price, etc.)
4. Access amazon.com and print out your online invoice, as well as the page which lists the Adrenaline pack info (package detail, etc.)
5. Send it all into American Express (don't forget to write the reference # at the top -- I even highlighted all the important info on each page) and cross your fingers.

NOTE -- I was very cautious about pm'ing this particular set, so I didn't open my Xbox until my check came in from Amex. Amazon offers a 30 day return guarantee on their products, so my plan was to return the console if I didn't get the pricematch (Amex PM refund turnaround time is 1-2 weeks).

I don't want anyone to get burned, so use the above at your own risk. It could be a little more riskier now -- when I pm'ed a couple weeks ago, the superb-bargains.org site didn't explicitly state that they were out of stock (they had a "buy it now" link). You might want to speak to Amex PM representatives to make sure that the particular condition doesn't matter (if they say its okay, get the representative's ID #).

Best of luck to those of you that do try -- I do have original superb-bargains.org website printouts (that don't say "out of stock") and would be happy to send those over to people who go for it.

GREAT JOB!!!

Justin42
03-26-2002, 10:37 PM
I just called Amex to ask (in theory, nothing was specified!!) about the out of stock issue, and I was read a paragraph that "bundled items, kits, or one of a kind items offered for a limited time" are excluded... She basically described for me the stuff on superb-bargains/Amazon. I asked "So if something is out of stock but theoretically more will be coming, it's ok?" and she said yes, but I am a bit concerned about the previous statement about bundles/kits.

So like I said-- for those of you who jumped in and got it-- congrats, you're lucky! I'm a bit too chicken (and a bit too broke right now-- should've jumped in before!) to try this at this point...

(it says on the S-B website the prices go up on 3/31-- why do I think that 4/1 their site will mysteriously disappear?)
