My dad has had these "mystery" heart palpitations for the past 5 years, and we've been to a dozen doctors, but none could determine the cause. Diagnoses have ranged from heartburn to angina. EKG's have come out clean, and he has a relatively healthy diet, but the palpitations would still occur about 3-4 times a year.

We finally came across a specialist who said he could help. After some consultation, the doc determined that the culprit was a set of wayward nerve endings around the heart that was sending mixed-up signals and causing the flutters.

The doc went in and burned the nerve endings, and the procedure was a success! If things go well for the next 2 months, then we can finally put this behind us and breathe easily! :thumb:

That is great news. :)

Is it painful to burn nerve endings like that? I would think that it would be.

It shouldn't be painful to burn off those hear fibers cuz from what jujubees said, it seems like they are sympathetic fibers and not pain free nerve endings, although the surgery itself could be painful.

I hope your dad gets well soon jujubees. Good luck to you all.

Of course, the "surgery" is usually accomplished by the "up the artery from the leg" process, so it's not like they are cracking open the chest. But I'm sure I'm just "preaching to the choir" :hihi:
