Hockey Player Makes Nazi Salute
BERLIN (AP) - An American who once played in the NHL made a stiff-armed Hitler salute and called a referee a Nazi during a game in a German hockey league.
Scott Levins, a right wing for the Berlin Polar Bears, reacted after being called for a minor penalty. The Nazi salute is banned in Germany.
``We will conduct an investigation and request a statement,'' said Gernot Tripcke, general manager of the German pro league. Any punishment will be up to the club, he said.
Levins' actions came during the Polar Bears' 3-0 win over Iserlohn Roosters on Tuesday.
Levins was an NHL journeyman, playing for Winnipeg, Florida, Ottawa, and Phoenix. He is with his third club in three seasons in the German league.

He's not here...
Simple conclusion. ;)

Yes, the NHL is the best league in the world. Thus it attracts most of the best players in the world. Many US and Canadian natives must go overseas to play professionally because they can't compete here.

ok so is there anyway to find out if a player from the AHL from say -the 1980's ever went to the NHL or overseas? Is there some kind of databank or something?

Mr. Levins showed up at hockeydb.com:

More popular sites such as nhl.com and espn.com generally track only current players.

yeah, that guy sounds like an idiot. i wouldn't say it's a "typical american abroad acting like a jerk" -- more of a moronic athlete acting like a jerk.

i'm not disagreeing with you on that point; i think americans can be complete *******s when they are abroad.
however, i think this particular case is less of the "ugly americans trampling over another country's culture" and more of a moronic, john rocker-style athlete making a fool of himself.

You know, I realize that the Nazi Party was possibly the most evil organization on the face of the earth, and the Germans are probably pretty sensitive about it, but making a gesture illegal seems kind of extreme.
Possibly, because we are from the "land of the free", we take the whole "freedom of speech and expression" thing a little too serious.

Americans have lots of money. NHL teams pay hockey players well. This attracts talented players. The NHL is generally considered the best league because it employs a very large percentage of the world's talented players. Where's the problem in that logic?

Americans don't have to go abroad to act like jerks... some do just fine here in the states.
Holding everyone in America responsable for a few jerks is ludicrous. Profesional atheletes from most nations turn out to be jerks.

typical americans abroad acting like jerks. everyone has equal opportunity to act like jerks. saying that americans do it more than others is silly.
and btw, i hope you don't really think that every american that travels is a jerk. if so, then we'd hear about this stuff more often.
