the best picture for the low end models. I have it, and it works great. Has played every VCD I burned with no problems. I was
sent the 1800u1 from Mobshop instead of the 1800u, which is nice since the 1800u1 can read DTS disks in addition to DD.

Sorry, but what is a DTS disc? I gotta catch up on my DVD technology. Is it like a dual sided disc or something?

I believe DTS is the sound encoding for "Digital Theatre Sound", similar to movie theatres. Some feel it is superior to the Dolby Digital competing sound encoding. For example, Jaws being released July 11 on DVD will have 2 different DVD's, one DTS and the other DD. I have read where the DD can be played in both DTS and DD DVD players, but DTS can only be played in DTS decoded DVD players. I'm sure I will be corrected if I have mispoke. I am a newbie too, having the 1800u1 as my first DVD player.

the best dvd player for that price was the apex 1600A a couple month ago..someone is selling is on ebaby for 300 buckx..that's the one w/ the loophole in it..
