View Full Version : My favorite romantic song... What's yours and why?

Ok, I know this has kind of been done before, but I was listening to my Pearl Harbor cd (which is fantastic!) and wanted to share.
There You'll Be by Faith Hill is the most incredibly sad and romantic song that I have ever heard.
{Lyrics:
When I think back
On these times
And the dreams
We left behind
I'll be glad 'cause
I was blessed to get
To have you in my life
When I look back
On these days
I'll look and see your face
You were right there for me
[CHORUS:]
In my dreams
I'll always see your soul
Above the sky
In my heart
There always be a place
For you for all my life
I'll keep a part
Of you with me
And everywhere I am
There you'll be
Well you showed me
How it feels
To feel the sky
Within my reach
And I always
Will remember all
The strength you
Gave to me
Your love made me
Make it through
Oh, I owe so much to you
You were right there for me
[Repeat chorus]
'Cause I always saw in you
My light, my strength
And I want to thank you
Now for all the ways
You were right there for me
You were right there for me
For always
[Repeat chorus]{/Lyrics}
I think part of the reason I love this song so much is because she is my all-time favorite female singer, but mainly because this is one of my favorite movies and every time I hear it, scenes from the movie create this slideshow in my mind. The airplanes flying overhead, the last scene of the movie with her and him and the little boy, at the grave of the other (not saying names since I don't know who hasn't seen it and wants to). Just a heart wrenching song and the entire cd is like that. It's the only soundtrack I have ever heard from a movie that makes the movie seem so vivid in my mind at the moment I am hearing it.
:bawl: I'm going to go cry now. Sad, sad, sad.

'Lately' by Jodeci,'Baby hold on to me' by Gerald and Eddie levert, 'Someone to hold' by Trey Lorenz, and 'play that funky music white boy' by vanilla ice. I never get sick of those songs cus they're not too cheesy. Make me wanna hold someone close. *sigh*

Wherever you will go ~ THE CALLING
So lately, been wondering
Who will be there to take my place
When I'm gone you'll need love to light the shadows on your face
If a great wave shall fall and fall upon us all
Then between the sand and stone, could you make it on your own
If I could, then I would,
I'll go wherever you will go
Way up high or down low, I'll go wherever you will go
And maybe, I'll find out
A way to make it back someday
To watch you, to guide you, through the darkest of your days
If a great wave shall fall and fall upon us all
Then I hope there's someone out there
Who can bring me back to you
Chorus
Run away with my heart
Run away with my hope
Run away with my love
I know now, just quite how,
My life and love may still go on
In your heart, in your mind, I'll stay with you for all of time
Chorus
I like this one because it is about undying love. This couple has broke up but they are permanently bonded.

If it comes on the radio, i have to sing along, and i've even gotten pretty good at harmonizing to it. Too bad Lydia doesnt really sing too well (hummm... just like my mom - she cant carry a tune in a bucket).

Nine Inch Nails - Were In This Together
I've become impossible
Holding on to when
When everything seemed to matter more
The two of us
All used, all used and beaten up
Watching fate as it flows down the path we have chosen
You and me
We're in this together now
None of them can stop us now
We will make it through somehow
You and me
If the world should break in two
Until the very end of me
Until the very end of you
Awake to the sound
As they peel apart the skin
They pick and they pull
Trying to get their fingers in
Well they've got to kill what we've found
Well they've got to hate what they fear
Well they've got to make it go away
Well they've got to make it disappear
The farther I fall I'm beside you
As lost as I get I will find you
The deeper the wound I'm inside you
Forever and ever I am a part of ...
You and me
We're in this together now
None of them can stop us now
We will make it through somehow
You and me
If the world should break in two
Until the very end of me
Until the very end of you
All that we were is gone we have to hold on
All that we were is gone we have to hold on
When all our hope is gone we have to hold on
All that we were is gone but we can hold on
You and me
We're in this together now
None of them can stop us now
We will make it through somehow
You and me
Even after everything
You're the queen and I'm the king
Nothing else means anything

As a female, I'm supposed to search for how the sappy song of the week "applies" to our relationship. :P But when my bf said that about this song, I had to stop the presses! With the odds stacked against us over the last 5 years, this was the perfect choice.
For those of you who've heard it, it's not exactly fitting of a wedding ceremony, so we might have to find something more appropriately sappy. ;)

Not sure how it sounds, or the lyrics.. but there are quite a number of people who sang a song by that title.
Amber, Don Mclean, Olivia Newton-John, Barbra Streisand, Andy Williams, and another dozen or so.. =P but dunno bout any groups. I usually check www.cdnow.com for song titles, track listings, etc.

In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel
This is a great song. So much emotion, so much feeling. And then after seeing Say Anything, the use of that song just blows me away. I want John Cusack to stand under my window and play me that song.
Another favorite song is The Search is Over. My ex-boyfriend almost ruined that song for me, but I pulled through.
How can I convince you what you see is real
Who am I to blame you for doubting what you feel
I was always reachin', you were just a girl I knew
I took for granted the friend I have in you
I was living for a dream,
Loving for a moment
Taking on the world,
That was just my style
Now I look into your eyes
I can see forever,
The search is over
You were with me all the while
Can we last forever, will we fall apart
At times it's so confusing, these questions of the heart
You followed me through changes, and patiently you'd wait
Till I came to my senses, through some miracle of fate
I was living for a dream,
Loving for a moment
Taking on the world,
That was just my style
Now I look into your eyes
I can see forever,
The search is over
You were with me all the while
Now the miles stretch out behind me loves that I have lost
Broken hearts lie victims of the game
Then good luck it finally stuck like lightning from the blue
Every highway leading me back to you
Now at last I hold you, now all is said and done
The search has come full circle, our destinies are one
So if you ever loved me show me that you give a damn
You'll know for certain the man I really am
I was living for a dream,
Loving for a moment
Taking on the world,
That was just my style
Then I touched your heart
I can hear you whisper,
The search is over
Love was right before my eyes

also, peter gabriel's in your eyes... mostly cuz the song rocks, partly because of that scene in the movie say anything, with cusack holding up the boom box outside the girl's window, blaring that song...

Valentine was my wedding song. I highly recommend you hearing it if you havent.
If there were no words, no way to speak, I would still hear you
If there were no tears, no way to feel inside, I'd still feel for you
And even if the sun refused to shine,
Even if romance ran out of rhyme,
You would still have my heart until the end of time
You're all I need, my love, my valentine
All of my life I have been waiting for all you give to me
You've opened my eyes and shown me how to love unselfishly
I've dreamed of this a tousand times before
In my dreams I couldn't love you more
I will give you my heart until the end of time
You're all I need, my love, my valentine
And even if the sun refused to shine,
Even if romance ran out of rhyme,
You would still have my heart until the end of time
'Cause all I need is you, my valentine
You're all I need, my love, my valentine

Who's that song by?
Theres another song that I enjoy listening to alot. If you like romantic slow songs, I think you'd like it. They have this song on karaoke discs too. It's a duet by Jacky Cheung & Regine Velasquez - "In Love With You"
(Jacky)
Just a gentle whisper, tell me that you'd gone
Leaving only memories, where did we go wrong?
I couldn't find the words then, so let me say them now
I'm still in love with you
(Regine)
Tell me that you love me, tell me that you care
Tell me that you need me, and I'll be there
I'll be there waiting...
(Regine/Jacky)
I will always love you, I will always stay true
There's no one who loves you like I do
Come to me now
I will never leave you, I will always here with you
Through the good and bad I will stand true
I'm in love with you
(Jacky)
Now we're here together, yesterday has past
Life is just beginning, close to you at last
And I promise to you, I will always be there
I give my all to you
(Regine)
Living life without you is more that I can bear
Hold me close forever,
I'll be there...
(Jacky)
I'll be there for you
(Regine/Jacky)
I will always love you, I will always stay true
There's no one who loves you like I do
This I promise...
I will never leave you, I will stand here with you
Though the good and bad I will stand true
Hold me closer...
Our love is forever, holding us together
Nothing in this world can stop us now
(Jacky)
Love has found
(Regine)
Love has found a way ...
(Regine/Jacky)
I'm in love, I'm in love
Yes I'm in love, so in love
I'm so in love with you....

i have very mixed feelings about them. on the one hand, one some level, the songs are pretty good love songs, and a part of me always enjoys them.
on the other hand, the sappy 1970s/80s synthesized mournful warbling crap makes me want to eat glass, as do the falsettos and some of the really bad lyrics. so i've never been able to bring myself to burn a cd of their stuff. cuz i just... don't... quite... enjoy it.

If you could read my mind love
what a tale my thoughts would tell
Just like an old time movie
about the ghost from a wishing well
When you reach the part, where the heartache comes
the hero will be you, heroes often fail.
Never though I'd feel this way,
but I have to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong,
but the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back.
If you could read my mind, yeah.
If you could read my mind love
what a tale my thoughts would tell
Just like a paperback novel
the kind the drugstore sells.

I think the lyrics went like this. Haven't heard it in a long time though... so I might be wrong in some parts. Kinda had a female voice (not positive it was a girl, and not just a guy with a high voice though...).
Oh... and other love songs that I like
Garbage - I'd die for you
John Waite - I ain't missing you at all
Frente (or New Order both versions were good) - Bizzare love triangle
Toni Braxton - Unbreak my heart
Sheryl Crow - My favorite mistake
Melissa Ethridge - If I wanted to

Bangles - Eternal Flame (my brief romance with a guy from England, we both sent each other song compilations that started with this song)
On My Own - Eponine/Les Miserables Soundtrack (plaintive, longing love- the kind you have at least once in your life)
Stephanie Says - Velvet Underground (makes me cry)
Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond (happy, joyous love)
Everything I Own - Bread (sappy, sentimental, but so true when you've lost someone)
Just Between You and Me - April Wine (the lyrics can make anyone bawl)
Angel - Shaggy (if a girl gets this, she knows the guy is really into her)
Let's Just Get Naked - Joan Osbourne (well, d'oh!)
In Your Eyes - Billy Squier (it's different from the Peter Gabriel song, it's talking about a guy finding himself after looking into the love of his life's eyes)
Groovy Kind of Love- Phil Collins (what I want)
and when it's over:
You Suck - The Murmurs (2nd place, Untouchable, from the same album. This is a great girl band, and a great song for after the break-up)
Yep, you can tell I grew up in the 80's.....

Just Another Day In Paradise
Sung by: Phil Vassar
The kids screaming, phone ringing...
Dog barking at the mailman bringing...
That stack of bills - overdue...
Good morning baby, how are you?
Got a half hour, quick shower...
Take a drink of milk but the milk's gone sour...
My funny face makes you laugh...
Twist the top on and I put it back...
There goes the washing machine...
Baby, don't kick it...
I promise I'll fix it...
Long about a million other things...
Well, it's ok. It's so nice...
It's just another day in paradise...
Well, there's no place that...
I'd rather be...
Well, it's two hearts...
And one dream...
I wouldn't trade it for anything...
And I ask the lord every night...
For just another day in paradise...
Friday, you're late...
Guess we'll never make our dinner date...
At the restaurant you start to cry...
Baby, we'll just improvise...
Well, plan B looks like...
Dominoes' pizza in the candle light...
Then we'll tippy toe to our room...
Make a little love that's overdue...
But somebody had a bad dream...
Mama and daddy...
Can meand my teddy...
Come in to sleep in between?
Yeah it's ok. It's so nice...
It's just another day in paradise...
Well, there's no place that...
I'd rather be...
Well, it's two hearts...
And one dream...
I wouldn't trade it for anything...
And I ask the lord every night...
For just another day in paradise...
Well, it's ok. It's so nice...
It's just another day in paradise...
Well, there's no place that...
I'd rather be...
Two hearts...
And one dream...
I wouldn't trade it for anything...
And I ask the lord every night...
For just another day in paradise...
For just another day in paradise...
Well, it's the kids screaming. The phone ringing...
Just another day...
Well, it's Friday. You're late...
Oh yeah, it's just another day in paradise...

Ever since I heard this son I LOVED it. It's the first Country CD I ever bought.
Another is by Rascal Flats " It's not just me "
It’s Not Just Me
(Jay DeMarcus/Marcus Hummon)
Tell me you’ve had trouble sleeping
That you toss and turn from side to side
That it’s my face you’ve been seeing
In your dreams at night
Tell me that you wake up crying
And you’re not sure exactly why
Tell me that something is missing
In your life, in your life baby
Tell me that you live for love
That forever is never enough
That you’ve waited all your life to see
That you want so badly to believe
Tell me that it’s not just me
I could have sworn I saw you smile at me
Standing in the pouring rain
At a loss for words and running out of time
I said this crazy ting (crazy thing), I said
Tell me that you live for love
That forever is never enough
That you’ve waited all your life to see
That you want so badly to believe
Tell me that it’s not just me
Hold me now and tell me that you do believe
In a soul, a soul mate
And tell me, and tell me, tell me
Tell me that you live for love
That forever is never enough
That you’ve waited all your life to see
That you want so badly to believe
Tell me that it’s not just me

But this is just a basic list. I think it would depend on what kind of love you got going on. I have different favorites if its like nice fluffy romantic love, versus, gritty long distance long, versus two star crossed lovers. etc... So yeah if you wanna be more specific on the relationship i can probably get you a more enjoyable listing. Good luck
