Check out Q3Arena for linux at $9.99 at Electronic Boutique stores or ebworld.com, also featuring the cool tin box.
id Software provides a free downloadable EXE so you can play it in windows. It does require copying a big file (500MB?) to your HD from the CD but after that it works great. PLUS, 10 years later when there is no way you could load it up in Windows 2010, it should still work in linux.
