There are a number of stores that sell this product for less than $30 (e.g. http://www.solutions4sure.com or http://www.techdepot.com ) AND that have it in stock.

Just use pricegrabber to find the lowest price including S&H for your location:
http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=325578/search=sidewinder/ut=3ee3a7e0dcb4c991/

(if this link doesn't work, go to pricegrabber.com and search for "SIDEWINDER STRATEGIC COMMANDER")

Pricegrabber is wrong, click on Solutions4sure's and Techdepot's link and you'll see its sold out.

Also don't think this will be an eBay money maker, there are already 30 listed on eBay:

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?t&query=strategic+commander

most without any bids. There are a slew listed on Half.com for sale at between $8 - 13 like new in box.

is this $30 rebate only valid if we purchased at compusa since this is a rebate on their site. Buy.com's rebate is for $20. Could we acquire this product at any store and use any of the rebate forms?

Hmm, this gets tricky:

Microsoft has only a $20 off coupon on its website:
http://www.microsoft.com/catalog/display.asp?rb=239&subid=22

However the $30 rebate looks like a regular manufacturers coupon to me
(link: http://www.cusarebates.com/coupons/0209590.pdf), so you should be able to use it with any store or am I wrong?

Nice post, but does anyone use this thing? I never heard of it before and I think it would take some gaming freak to want it, not the average person ... any comments? And it's MS too!

A note on MS rebates, just like the MS mice, there are different rebate amounts that are all legit, just lucky finding the better ones.

There are some reviews at eopinions (http://www.epinions.com/cmhd-PCGameDevices-All-Microsoft_Strategic_Commander/display_~reviews/listype_~opb). Most of them recommend this device.

on the rebate, it asks for the retailer(store) where you bought the product and the location (city)
what r u supposed to put for that if u just buy it online??

Got mine from Programmers paradise- they went OOS the next day after the order was placed- I got immideate notification and the date of the future shipment, however it was shipped a week earlier, good service. I was expecting this to be serial connection to PC, however the one which was shipped is USB, cool.

I got the exact opposite dealing with Programmer's Paradise. Was in stock when I ordered got a confirmation email on my purchase. There wasn't a ship out notification for a week, I emailed them. I don't know if you consider 2 days prompt service, but then they replied saying what I ordered was out of stock. That they wouldn't get anymore until 28th of march. They didn't say that I would get one, just that they were expecting more to arrive around March 28th. Cancelled my order.

My suggestion,

for those of you who have a blue card? Get it any where you can, PM it to buy.com (retail price $21.xx) and get the difference, then send in the rebate!

Works out the same way :)
