Hi,

I switched from Windows 2000 Pro to Windows XP Pro last winter, and I haven't been able to get my Teac 16x10x40 CDRW or Lite-On 16x DVD to run in DMA mode since installing. I'm running a Duron 800 on an Asus A7A266 using 256mb of DDR memory. My hard drives (both on the first IDE channel) run in UDMA100, but both CD drives (on the second channel) will only run in PIO mode. I have gone to Device Manager and tried switching from 'DMA if Available' to PIO back to DMA like I saw online, with no help. I've installed the newest ALi 'Mini IDE' driver; XP still runs the same, no problems except the PIO mode on both devices on the 2nd IDE channel. Also, both of my CD drives show up as UDMA-2 in the BIOS, so I think there is a problem with XP and not with my drives.

My IDE controller is "ALi M5229 PCI Bus Master IDE Controller".
The drives that aren't working, again, are "LITEON DVD-ROM LTD163" and "TEAC CD-W516EB".

Any help or insight would be great! Thanks a lot.

Mike
