View Full Version : How about a "Jokes" Forum?

Is it possible to start another forum called "Jokes"?
i'm opposed to it.
I like being able to go from a fairly well rounded discussion to a joke fairly quickly, without changing forums.... besides..
*Stares blankly*
DAMNIT!
I forgot again.... grrr

I just thought it would be a good idea to separate them into its own forum, not jokes but humor in general.

Well... if they do... I'm probably not going to visit the Off topic forum as often. I'll spend my time in the Jokes forum. :D

in general, it seems like a bad idea to me.
first of all, off topic = off topic. jokes clearly fit into that category. i think that if you try to separate them, it starts to become a matter of personal definitions as to whether or not something is a joke, an off topic post, or something else.
also, you may notice that often jokes that are posted end up leading to much deeper, more serious discussions, which i think are very valuable (at least in some cases. in other cases they are just flame wars). at that point, would the mods move the thread from the jokes forum to the offtopic forum?
all in all, it seems like it would be more hassle than it's worth. besides, i'd rather have a wider variety of posts in one forum instead of having the splintered.

Then why do we have a automobile section? A suckage/not suckage section? Entertainment....etc. All those are also off topic....
(side note: I don't think we should have one either...just playing devil advocate...:))

:heh:
actually, i did realize that my argument wasn't entirely solid. i just didn't bother explaining myself further :P
basically, i think that less segmentation of the forums is better than more. i mean, we could have a "mojo's news" forum, a "social/moral/political issues" forum, a "sexist comments/revealing female pictures" forum, a "help with academic problems" forum, a "polls about meaningless personal habits that none of us really care about but are more than happy to answer because everyone likes to talk about themselves" forum, a "i have a question; markel, please use your google skills to find the answer for me" forum, and many more. the fun would be endless.
so anyway, i know you agree with me, but i had to attempt some humor as i thought of all the forums we could have.
oh, one more: how about a "posts from bigjon that we ignore" forum? :P
:heh:

Ahh.. no one would read those.
Btw: I sent the pic you wanted.
I'll drink to having a beer drinking forum.
if we post jokes in off topic, then it gives us a way out if it's not funny. if you say something and it falls below the humor-meter, you could just say "oh, i didnt mean it to be funny" or "oh, i was just saying it to be cute." however, if it's in the jokes forum, we're gonna expect it to be funny. we'd have a new trend of "holy unfunny jokes, batman" regulation. morale would fall as more and more cut-throat tactics would be devised towards humor or disproving the humor of a nemesis. you would post a joke looking out for number one, only to step in number two. our way of life as we know it would crumble, and our society would splinter into sects of different tastes for jokes.
a humor forum? i say it sounds pretty dangerous :shifty:

I think what we really need is a news forum. Or a repost forum.

Yeah, but who's going to read through the regular off topic forum just to get stuff to repost. Reposting is usually done by people being sloppy and not checking the off topic forum thoroughly enough.
Oh... and about needing to post good jokes on the jokes forum. Good point. Personally, I'd like a way to back out on those rare instances when I post a bad joke. :banghead:
