Help installing printer

I am running win2k and trying to install my deskjet 970cse. when i tried installed it the 1st time with my software disk it gave me a "driver not supported" error. I downloaded the 2k_me driver from hp's website and installed that per the directions, but it can't find my printer. I unplugged it and replugged it when told, by the way it's a parallel port, but it doesn't locate the printer. Can you help?

Well its hard to say but I do know from experience when instaling HP printers makes sure to install the software before installing the printer to the PC.
