you pretty much can't get 40x media yet. But, depending on the drive, it can/may burn slower media at 40x, or at least 32x.

Where could i find 32x media and what happens (the bad side) if I burn at 40x on 32x media??

Most blank CD packages are labelled with thier rated speed, though it's not unusual for them to be burned at higher speeds. I have 16x media and a 24x burner at work and I've had no problems.

As to where, check out BestBuy, CompUSA, OfficeMax, OfficeDepot, or Staples - or pretty much any online tech store, like Buy.com.

The worse that could happen is you get a bad burn. Nothing very serious.

One thing I've found is that 650MB blanks (if you can find them anymore) are more stable than the 700MBs. Unless I actually need the extra 50MB, I always use 650s. I read a technical article sometime back that went into detail about how the lower density CDs are more stable because they have a wider data track & it's less likely that your burner will have an error with them. I have to say that there must be some truth to that, 'cuz I'm burning at 40x on a stack of 4x rated CDRs.

:heh:

What a dope I am! Sorry about that...

I'm not one who really cares about benchmarks, so I never run them. I can tell you that it's never taken more than 3 minutes or so to burn a CD, tho. All I know is that it's gobs faster than the old 4x it replaced, so I'm happy!

If you can't find 40X media, try the imitation cdr's. I've heard that the 16X will run at 32X. I've had good luck with Verbatium 16X. I have a 24X burner and the Verbatiums work at 24X not problem. It also depends on the burner. In the Liteon and Plextor 40X duel, the Plextor didn't like alot of the media used. So i'm sure it also depends on the burner. I have the Pacific Digital 24/10/40 and I burn 700mb media at about 4 min and 15 sec. It also depends on what type of info i'm burning. Also my Pacific Digital is recognized as the Liteon 24102B. I love my burner. It is so awesome compared to the Yamaha 8/4/24 it upgraded from. :)
