Man dies in fight over can of beer in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. - (AP) -- A man has been charged with manslaughter for allegedly stabbing a co-worker to death during a scuffle over a can of beer, authorities said.

Amadeo Galvez, 36, told investigators with the Lee County Sheriff's Office that Cristobal Velazco entered his apartment uninvited around 2 a.m. Saturday and asked for a beer.

Galvez told Velazco, 45, it was his last one and asked him to leave, according to the arrest report. An argument ensued and the men began fighting, eventually ending up outside the farm worker housing where both lived.

Galvez told investigators that's when Velazco pulled out a knife from his waistband and began chasing him into a nearby soccer field. Galvez claims he wrestled the knife from Velazco then stabbed him three times in the abdomen when Velazco wouldn't stop approaching.

Sheriff's Lt. Richard Dobson said Velazco was stabbed numerous times in the stomach and back.

Dobson said about 10 empty cans of Natural Light were found in an area of the field where Velazco liked to drink and that people had seen him drinking heavily about midnight.

If found guilty of the second-degree felony, Galvez could be sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison.

If you're going to kill someone over a can of beer, at least make it something respectable, like PBR or Millwaukee's Best or something like that!

:heh:

No... moose urine is much stronger, and tastes better, even warm.

At least, I would guess it does. I've tried Natural Light, and I can't imagine moose urine tasting worse...

Does that even count as a beer? good point. he'd be on trial for 1st degree murder and not manslaughter if he gave it to him

well, i wouldn't kill anyone over a natural light, but if we were talking Newcastle or Pilsner Urquell, you can bet i'd kill you. Kim's mama taught here well. NEVER, EVER, EVER, and i mean NEVER, mess with a man's beer...

Well, once my GF, before we were dating but when she knew i liked her messed with my beer. We went out to have a drink, i got a Black & Tan and she got a Midori Sour. I have no idea what she was thinkin' but she put her marchino cherry in my Black & Tan to be cute or something and fuked the whole thing up.  It was bubbling like mad and then when the madness stopped, the 2 layers were all mixed together and my beer had a sweet taste to it. I nearly killed her, but instead i decided to date her. Go figure...

Wow, and sbp wasn't the one doing the killing. Come to think of it, 13 posts in this beer thread and he hasn't even chimed in. This is not like him at all. I hereby strip him of his "Ruler-Of-All-Things-Beer" title and dub him "Beer-Peon" until he gets his affairs in order. Brewmaster, his former title is now available...
