Not from drinking, (I think I've only done that once) but from being dizzy or standing too fast? I do all the time, and it is driving me crazy. Plus it freaks my kids out. :( I'm just wondering if I'm a freak or something.

once from my dad holering at me when i was a little kid, and once when i was drilling something, and the drill bit broke in half and the dril and remaining bit dropped onto my left hands thumb and poked a little dent in my thumbnail... about 3mins later i passed out.

hehehe..I guess all Utahns are freaks in one way or another. Anyway I would say the elevation is 4700 feet.

Only non-booz time I've passed out was when I was about 12. I was at a party and a friend of mine and I decided it was really cool to listen to what a helium balloon can do to your voice. Too many balloons and nite-nite. ;)

Kim, that's DEFINITELY something to ask your doctor about. Not to worry you (& more than likely, it isn't this), but that can be a symptom of some serious health stuff... :( :)

Four of our kids have had that problem. When they get really upset and pitch a fit, or if they get hurt, they will just stop breathing, start contorting, turn blue and pass out. They wake up about 30 seconds later with a killer headache. The first few times it was really quite disturbing. Fortuantely the first time it ever happened we were at the doctor's office. The doctor said it's not uncommon and they will typically grow out of it. I think they all have, it's been quite a while since we've had one of those "episodes".

It happened once at a family Christmas party. Everyone really freaked out and was actually mad at us that we just held the kid and let him pass out.

kim - how much excercise to you get on a daily basis?

if you dont, you might want to try slowly starting out in a little excercise to raise your metabolism rate.

do some areobis and stuff, but dont get into sit-ups or toe-touching since it'll be raising your head up and down and make you dizzy.

Only time(s) I have passed out is when I have been intoxicated.

HUH???

But I know what kb0wwp is talking about. Audrey, when she was 1yr old till she was about 2 1/2, used to do the same thing. She would throw fits and her lips would turn blue and she would stop breathing and pass out. My mom would freak and yell at me for letting her do it (pass out). But she did out grow it.

But as for Kim's situation, I have done it before, yeah. And I was pregnant. It was this last one and I still get lightheaded now when I stand up too quick. It depends on stress and horrormones. My doctor last fall said that to me, it is just the way my body is responding to stuff.

I personally think he is a quack military doctor.

i did once, when i was probably ~10.

i got in a bike accident (we lived on a dirt road) and broke the bottom off my front tooth and got some nasty roadburn that left small stones embeded in my skin (i think a few of them are still in there).

i walked back to our house (1/4 mile or so) and my mom took me in the bathroom to clean out the cuts and i just passed out and fell backwards onto the floor (this was while we were still walking...she hadn't touched any of the injuries or anything at that point). my eyes rolled back in my head so all you could see was the whites. freaked the hell out of my mom :heh:

then, after i came to, she cleaned them all out with peroxide and rubbing alcohol. OUCH!!!!!!!

You should definitely see a doctor. I pass out all the time, but I'm just very very prone to heat stroke. On a hot sunny day in L.A. if I stand up too soon... down I go. I usually come to pretty quick, and my head has softened the yard enough that It doesn't bother me too much. But definitely see a doctor. It could be a minor thing, or a really major thing. Good luck, and best wishes. :)

Thats normal... used to happen to me a lot as a kid. If I sit for long periods of time (watching a movie/working) and my heart rate is low and I suddenly get up, I'll get a really light-headed feeling and won't be able to see anything for 3-4 seconds.

But i've never actually passed out.

Yeah, I pass out whenever my skin is pierced by a needle or needle like object.

As for passing out without any other input, that can be a sign of diabetes, hypoglycemia, low blood pressure, or other serious medical conditions. I would suggest that you see a doctor asap.

I've been this way all my life, and every time I've talked to the doctor about it they never seem to be worried. I guess I'll ask again on my next visit. Thanks for all the input!

Hmm..I'm not a doctor (I just play one on the internet), but that comment kind of troubles me, your docs should be more concerned. I agree with the others about the high-altitude that may be a factor, but while passing out in itself may not be a serious problem, you may hurt yourself by falling on something when you do.

And if something serious did happen, who could I scream at for not buying a snowblower? Just kidding of course - :P

Hey, get well and do the right thing, OK? :)

Thanks for your concern! I am going to schedule a check up next week.

Once, about 20 years ago. I had a really bad case of the flu, and passed out in the bathroom. Hit my forehead on the tub on my way down and got a concussion for my troubles.

Hey I get that thing too sometimes. Never at school though, only on weekends when I'm on my comp all day. One time I got up and walked towards the kitchen and went "blind" and I crashed my forehead into the top part of the stove with the fans. That hurt quite a bit. ;)

Whenever I get it now, I just sit back down for like 5 secs until the dizzyness has passed.

this is a wierd question but are you a natural red head per chance? ...also..Only happened to me 3 times, once when I sneezed like 15 times in a row,I passed out and whacked my face on the way down-I looked like I fought a full round with Mohamed Ali. I had a black eye for about 2 months, once after I had a baby and got out of bed to use the bathroom (while still in the hospital), I blacked out- and landed on the foot of my roomates bed, and once at a funeral for my uncle at a Russian church in Scranton Pennsylvania-too much incense,95 degrees inside the building,no breeze in sight, and about 200 too many people to suit me.

Kim
03-23-2002, 05:28 PM
Nope, just red highlights. May I ask why? Are redheads more prone to dizziness?

oblongmelon
03-23-2002, 05:36 PM
it's weird-because if you had answered yes-my next question would have been-did you have a problem with excessive bleeding when you delivered your kids? For some reason-and the doctors could never explain it-natural redheads are prone to EXCESSIVE hemmoraging within 5 hours after childbirth, and excessive fainting with sudden movement. Wierd isn't it? But guarenteed-when we had a red head deliver, we'd have her in bed-with her bed tipped head down within 3 hours and at least two nurses, one basin and about 3 units of blood on standby just in case. Massaging fundis's is not fun if you have to do it for 30 minutes with deep pressure to get rid of the clots.to stop the bleeding..ugh.
