i'm back from my lovely two day spring break snowboarding adventure.
on wednesday night a friend and i set out to vermont for a few days of freshies, and we only got about 2 hours...
on my first ride down the mountain, my freaking toe strap broke on my bindings... so while i'm trying to rig something up (the repair shop didn't have any K2 straps) my lovely friend is busy busting his ankle.
see, we've been riding on ice and hard pack all winter, and like, we didn't know how to handle the pow pow. i almost busted like, 3 times!
but, at least my friend got to end the season on a good note... our whole trip was free (cept for gas of course)! we stayed at my roomate's sister's place, and her roomate hooked us up with free passes to the mountain. and we got first tracks on the biggest snowfall vermont's had all year. :)
we came home early because i knew my friend was in lots of pain, and i didn't feel like riding all day while he sat in the lodge in pain.
so now my question is >>> should i go to hunter mountain tomorrow and ride w/ my sister, OR should i go do autocross w/ my brother (in my mom's miata of course) instead?
Go snowboarding!
And pain? You want to know pain? This is what I did snowboarding during spring break:

haha, and I still got up and snowboarded for another 5 hours.

nice!
but my friend broke his ankle, and he actually did take one my run, but he took all green trails down after about 2 minutes because he was in soo much pain.
Ya...the mountain tends to kick your ass at first. After I got that gash, the next day lots of the snow was icy. I tried to stop going down a steep hill and i just fell on my ass and slid on the ace about 100 yards or so. I was going really fast and there was a girl just sitting at the base of the hill, my face slammed into her lower back and my trusty pair of Oakleys shatted on my face. Surprisingly I didn't break my nose. Disoriented me for about a minute, then I got up on the lift again and went down the slopes some more ;) After I put my oakleys in the trash :/

My brother went into snowboarding early and he's quite good. He's an old-school boarder - surfing instead of skater-style.
Me? I stuck to skiing and I'm not too bad. When you grow up 45-60 minutes from the slopes in No. California you find time to get in some runs. I stuck with skiing because I figured I'd be good in one downhill snow sport and not mediocre in two.
Then there's cross-country skiing/telemarking (that I also love), but I won't go into that...
Seeing the injuries that several folks have shown in this thread is proof enough that I made the right choice...
:D

Sorry to hear about your friend's ankle, but despite that I'm sure snow boarding was fun for the short amount of time you guys had.

the last time i was boarding, i thought it was bad that i sprained my wrist. i walked into the ski patrol room looking for some help, but they were all busy taking care of a guy with a compound fracture of his right tibia. i havent been since.
