I was just wondering what everyones SAT scores were and whether or not they any prep courses or how they prepared.
for me math/verbal = 680/680
my prep was minimal. I picked up an SAT prep book in the library but beyond that it was off the cuff besides my PSATS which I wasnt satisfied with, come to think of it, im still not satisfied. ALright post back with yuor responses

I got a 1390. I never took a prep course or the PSATS. I just winged the whole thing and stuck with my first score because I figured it was good enough to get me into the universities I wanted. I don't remember the exact breakup but my math was higher than my verbal.

1360. i took the math prep class offered by my HS. it was helpful b/c it taught strategy to taking the test because, as you probably know, the test isn't hard, it's just a matter of knowing how to figure out the answers when you're not exactly sure. my parents weren't about to pay for courses, so if my school didn't offer it, i think i woulda done fine on my own...

a TI-89, if you know how to use it, will get you at least a 700 on math.

:disa:

Okay, let's take a step back and think ... would someone BRAG about an 810? Maybe if I were some frat boy, trying to prove the tale, "As long as you fill in your name & address correctly, you've got 800 points, duuuuuude!!"

And I took them the first year graphing calcs were allowed so there was a whopping ONE problem that actually required it. Everything else, I did with my abacus. :P

I had an 1160, dont remember what the individual scores were, but they were virtually identical, somewhere around 560 verbal 600 math.

and what year did they start allowing graphing calcs... i dont remember being able to use one on the test?

and to answer the origional question.... no studying, no prep courses, and only one PSAT (1020 i believe)

does anyone know if the recentered scores make the test easier or harder? leemaj and i were arguing about it. and 720 verbal 690 math, took it twice, no prep classes. i was going to take it again to dominate the math section, but i figured what the hell.

The 1994 Calculus AP test was the first year that graphic calcs were allowed, and there was ONE problem that required it.

And the minimum score of 800 was what my hs adviser told me.

Well remember he is a HS Advisor, he probably never even took the SATs :P I don't think the minimum score is 200. I think it's like 400 or 500. You got SOME right juju.

Learning how to use my HP 48GX calculator definitely got me past the EIT and the PE exams for electrical engineering. I wish I had something like that for my SATs when I took them in <gasp> 1988...

As for me my SAT scores were 680 Math, 610 Verbal. I took it twice and never had any real improvement except for my verbal score. I never took any prep classes, though I did take the PSAT test.

As for AP courses, I took the Biology, US History and Physics exams. I got a 4, 5 and 3 respectively. When I tried to get a credit for my Physics class then wouldn't let me because I was in engineering. They took the Bio and History AP credits though - I got 10 units for those 2 tests.

From collegeboard.org (http://www.collegeboard.org/research/html/rs05.pdf):

Will Percentiles change?
Percentiles will remain virtually unchanged.
For example: a student who scored a 420 or
430 on the verbal section in 1993 (about the
average verbal score for that year) would be
at the 50th percentile. After recentering, that
student’s score would change to about 500
but the percentile would still be at 50 percent.
So even though the score changes, the
percent of test-takers who score higher and
lower remains the same.

Your fired from being a cool kid. See, you used to be cool, and now your not, because you got fired. You can file for unemployment coolness, but it's still not as cool as being a fully employed cool kid, like you used to be, but now your not. Get it?

I got a 1270 on my SAT, which is a pretty good score, but you guys make me feel like an underachiever. :P I would have done better but I didnt take a math class my senior year so I was out of practice on the math section. 690 on English, 580 on math.

The SATs are a terrible way to judge intelligence. The math section doesn't prove anything other than your ability to memorize processes. The language section is simple comprehension. Nowhere on the exam does it prove critical thinking or any sort of creativity. And with most colleges now accepting mixed combined scores (you can use your verbal from one test and math from another), it's even easier to do well. You can just focus on one half, and test and test until it's high, and to the opposite for the other portion. It sucks.

Moreover, I think people that brag about test scores are obnoxious. Bragging is for kids, and I'm getting tired of it on the board. No one ever seems to talk about anything important, it seems that almost every thread becomes an excuse for posters to brag. I've been on this board for a long long time, and it's never been close to as bad as it's become in the past few weeks.

/me gets off soapbox, applies flame protectant.

i feel ya Blu. i don't know if everyone in this thread (and other threads) was braggin, or just answering the question in all humbleness, but i know what you mean. i've felt it too. but the way i figure it is that no one here is going to stroke the bragging egos, so those who enjoy bragging will get frustrated and either leave or knock that crap off. either way, it's a win-win situation i think. let's hope so.

if anyone with a high score posts their score, it'll seem like bragging. also, it's pretty tough to judge if it's bragging, or just posting it like the thread's about....cause, well...emotions are kinda hard to convey over the internet...yeah, we can use smiles the smiles i guess....
