ahhh
there is a freaking building a few blocks away from me thats been burning for 3 days now, and the winds changed last night so now my entire apartment smells like its ablaze!

it was so strong last night that my roomate woke us all up at 4am because she thought our house was on fire!

grrrrr. the smell is making me sick! and on top of all this stinky stinky, the freakin holland tunnel is closed again! it took me 45 minutes just to get home when i was 3 miles from my house yesterday. i was not pleased.

that's lame... they shouldn't just let the building try to burn itself out... :disa: they are really intelligent... no.. really...

Yuck! I hope they get it out, or the winds change soon.

um, well, the walls were lined w/ cork b/c it used to be a refrigeration warehouse (its been abandoned for years.) so when they tried to go in it was too hot so they decided just to let it burn itself out.

plus the fact that this is only about 3 miles from the WTC (although in nj) so i'm sure the fire dept is being especially cautious.

I could see them not wanting to lose anyone else, but c'mon 3 days of just watching a building burn... very, very slowly... what's up with that action...?

Speaking of burning house.. well, I'm on vacation in Las Vegas right now.. I'm using one of my dad's places here. While we arrived, we noticed the gas stove was still on. There aren't too many people who actually come to this house... Like once a month at most? Some scary stuff!

Still seems strange that they havent even put water on it to cool it off, especially with the change in wind.

is there anything surrounding the burning building that they are afraid might catch fire? getting out that smell of smoke takes forever-but if you have to clean good to get rid of the smell-use diluted listerine.

thanks oblong, but the smell has now dissapated w/ the little bit of rain we've received. and it really wasn't that bad, i was being a little dramatic. but outside really has stunk since friday, thank goodness for the rain!

and to answer someone's question about trying to put it out> they said it was too dangerous to go into the building, so they weren't going to risk lives to save an abandoned warehouse. and just pouring water ontop of the fire i don't think does so much good. so they just sat and toasted marshmellows for a few days i guess.
