That sucks Bella :( If you weren't expecting it, that is. But if you have enough money so that you don't have to work immediately, I say enjoy yourself! Why don't you kick back at the pool with a 40 listening to your Britney Spears records? ;)

:( ouch...sorry to hear it. Call unemployment and enjoy ur vacation. It could be a blessing in disguise. My gf suffered from monthly visitor migraines...then she got laid off...then her roomate kicked her out of her apartment(illegally I might add) all in the same week. Six months later, she doesn't get migraines(caused by all the stress she was taking I figure from her old job), works at Godiva as a asst mgr with 50% off everything and suing her roomate...and she lives with me (but those benefits goes both ways :D )
Economy is picking up so you shouldn't be unemployed for long. :)

Sorry to hear that, bella. :(
BUT I'm a firm believer in things happening for a reason, so I'm sure that something even better is waiting for you! :D

sorry to hear it!
if you need something fast, go to a temp agency..alot of them have decent IT staffing (check Manpower)...i have a few friends that did temping after being laid off and although the loot wasn't the best...it was better than unemployment and they got more experience out of it.

I commute to work(Bay Area) from the Central Valley so I know I won't miss that but I really enjoyed my job.

Sorry to see this happen to you, bella.
If this is the first time you've been cut/laid-off/downsized, it is always the hardest (at least, from my experience). Don't let it get you down. Maintain your contacts (if possible) with ones you can at your old workplace - the "networking" aspect never hurts in job hunting. Work your resume into good order and start marketing yourself.

Maybe it's your subconscious mind which has a predetermined negative attitude to me that makes it seem that way? :P

maybe both of you should hush and stop crapping on bella's thread.
Bella, sorry...been there, will likely be there again as my contract is almost up. Only this time, it's they love me, but I'm really bloody tired of them.
Good luck Bella! I bet your dream job is just around the corner!

Don't worry, things tend to work out in the end. I know for a fact that nowadays there's more job postings in newspapers and job search engines, so a new and better job should be right around the corner :)

What do you do? Or should I say what do you want to do? Afterall, if there is one thing I've learned in my few months here it is not to underestimate this community's ability to help out. When you figure out where you would like to work post it. Maybe someone here can help you with an introduction.

I was just thinking the same thing Ed...sorry to hear about the job Bella, but maybe something more profitable, more enjoyable and closer to home is right around the corner...don't fret-something better is coming your way. :)(oooo and if you are lucky your boss might look like Mel Gibson ;) )

That's for sure! If it interests you, my company's current job list is here (http://jobsearch.monster.com/jobsearch.asp?q=infonet+services) . If you see something there that interests you, you can forward your resume to me and we'll split the bonus I get at the end of your probation period.
As for being laid off... Bella my heart goes out to you. It happenes to the best of us and all you can do now is look for the next opportunity. Did you at least get some kind of severance to help you with the transition?

03-27-2002, 02:04 PM
sorry to hear about that bella
but on a brighter note, you might be able to collect an additional 13 weeks of unemployment thanks to bushy-boy's new extention of unemployment benefits. so that equals 9 months of unemployed bliss. ;)
also, i'm not sure if the state u live in has this, but i went back to school because i couldn't find a job... and ny has a program that they will actually let you continue recieving your benifits while you attend classes. so i'm sorta getting paid to go to school, which totally rocks. now, if i could only find someone to pay my tuition, then i'd really be doing well.

All you guys are so awesome!! Thank you for letting me vent (again):bawl: You don't know how much reading these posts mean to me...
Obby: hahahahahaha! I wish he looked like Mel.. he looks MORE like Gilligan
Luckily I am getting a severance package..
This is my first "real" layoff..I feel like I am worthless :( I know I know that sounds kinda harsh but seriously, I do feel that way.

Like I said earlier, I know (from experience) that the first time this happens to you it hits the hardest. (I've been "tapped" 4 times, I think.) But don't let it get you down - you wouldn't believe the talent that I have seen cut from companies (especially when I was with Digital Equipment Corporation).

Excuse me?
You and Cantacuzene have plenty of threads to fight in, you don't need to spread it around. I'm not terribly concerned of how you feel about it.
May shock you to know I work here, and therefore have a vested interest in how the place is run. Cantacuzene's comment, thoughtless or otherwise, didn't require comment. But you did. Then he did, and then....No. I'll head that off right now.

I don't have to be "told" what to do... I'm a reasonable guy and an adult just as yourself. I might not "work here", but I still feel that I have a vested interest in this place as well... and frankly, you are not the GAM are you? (or ARE you? :hmm: )
Now you can send me a PM if you still have a problem with me. Cool?
Sorry Bella about continuing this on (but I felt compelled to answer)... hopefully it won't happen again.
No I don't think I will 'PM' you.
I realize, 'despite' how you have 'just' instantly 'pushed my buttons' by once again 'dismissing me', it ain't worth it. Nor do I want to turn this thread into the one thing I was 'trying' to 'avoid'.
Sorry Bella. Last word from me on this.

I have DF's back on this one. LP I have seen you do it time and time again, you snipe people with your asinine comments then get pissed and run to a GAM. Well you may "work" here, you do NOT control the people on this board. Well DF is a "reasonable guy and an adult" You my be an adult but you certainly are'nt reasonable. Also, by you posting more than a few times about DF he concluded that since you did'nt want to crap on this thread to PM him to keep it out of here, but you delclined his offer and crapped on this thread even more therefore causing the very thing you "did'nt want to happen" and it was provoked by YOU. Now would'nt PMing him be the reasonable thing to do?

I, as do others, didn't like seeing this thread take on the tone that it did (rather than give support/consolation/advice to bella). However, I'll throw in my opinion. I thought that Cantacuzene's first remark was in poor taste as it stood (and seen as such by bella), and DF's first response was deserved. But DF's next remarks kind of crossed over the line IMO, coming off as inflamatory. Which to me made LPM's first "rebuke" directed at both of them to be well-deserved. But I think DF overreacted again to what LPM said.
The nature of the forums is for brief (usually) exchanges of thoughts. A problem is that a brief statement often lacks the context to fully communicate the writer's intentions, emotions, etc. I think what's needed is a little bit of care to think about how what we say might be taken, and a willingness to cut some slack when we aren't sure what someone meant to say.

Bella, I'm sorry to hear about your job loss. Good luck to you in your job search. I know it's hard not to take it personally, but please keep in mind that you were not "worthless". The company I'm working for right now bit itself in the a** in the last layoffs, and now folks are "volunteering" to pick up the slack for the ones who are gone.
May your next job be ten times better than the last! :)
