O'Reily means well he just attacks the wrong people.
This is an issue that should be looked at-the effects of the entertainment industry on kids. And yes there is sh1t being shoveled to kids just to make a buck.

Totally. I used to not believe it. Mainly because I guess I never bought into the bull****. It just doesn't work on some people. But seeing my sister growing up and some of the crazy ideas she gets and where she gets them...I started seeing it. Although I do think that with good parenting it shouldn't be a problem. But sometimes it makes it hell on the parents.

I think I can speak for most guys when I say I don't want my children to be girls. I really don't think I could handle it. I'd be soooooo mean to any guy she brings home. Ofcourse, I'm sure I'll have 4 girls with my luck. I mean, if I found out my daughter had sex with some 19 year old guy when she was 14, I'd prolly kill him, and I'm not joking. I really hope I have boys.

I just hope you will raise your kids, so that they won't have sex with 14 year olds.
O'Railly is great; he speaks out about what others won't talk about. I wish more people would listen to him; he could help to open eyes. Just tell me that today American kids are not corrupted by the media. Media, marketers own kids' mind. And kids own their parent's. They don't give a sh1t about, morals, principals, and respect. All they care, is how to look "cool" how to talk, write Ebonics just like those cool rappers who teach them about rape, murder, how to steal, how to hate cops, and do drugs.
Some get affected more, some less, but the majority...
With the future like this WE are going to hell.

Don't take this the wrong way, this isn't an attack on you.. I still view myself as a kid at times, being as I still live under my parents roof. I understand what you're saying, but its not right to make that sort of generalization. I'm sure you we can throw out dozens of examples how marketers own kids minds, and I can throw out just as many vice versa. But because the movies portray a psycho killer shooting everyone around, it doesn't mean every kid is gonna pick up an AK-47 and go postal..
I think it has to do in large part by how the children are raised. I believe I have good morals. I don't drink, don't smoke, respect elders and others, respect peoples opinions. Though I see most "kids" fall under the same stereotype that you said, not everyone falls under these categories. I don't own my parents.. They still have great control over my actions, but am I complaining? no. Throw out some principals or morals, and I betcha I fit over 90% of the description. Not all kids are bad.. We're smart, we can think for ourselves, if only we're given the chance. And I think parents role is not to constantly limit children, but to encourage 'em.. Teach 'em right from wrong... they can't hold children's hands all their lives.. We want independent kids, we gotta let them make their own decisions once in a while! Stupid as it may be, let them learn from their mistakes..
This coming from a 21 year old.. I think its pretty sad how people that are older look down upon us younger kids. True, we look at the news and look around us.. We see that kids seem to be getting into more trouble, and more serious crime.. They're getting more lazy, yadda yadda yadda. But there are the good kids too, that aren't given the benefit of the doubt. We're labeled as "bad kids" for what other kids have done. We're watched closely in stores because we may be juveniles. We may not be like previous generations.. Times change.. But I'm sure many of the older people went through similar stages in their time. Wheres the faith in kids these days?
I hear my younger friends say all the time.. how parents don't trust 'em.. how teachers don't trust 'em.. how their grades aren't good 'nuf.. yet they're pulling over 3.5 GPA's, and are goody-two-shoes.. They aren't allowed to voice their opinion, because they're viewed as stupid, and delinquents. Respect goes both ways.. Kids too need to be shown some respect.
***END RANT... don't know if any of that made sense, but :P

O'Reilly is a bit too conservative and elitist for me, but I thought that he had some decent points. I do agree with him that Insane Clown Posse is the scum of the earth. Those fools try and say they are "representing" the youth of today, but I think that they are more correctly skewing problem children into believing that they are onto something with their music. ICP claims to "care" about their listeners but what they are really doing is trying to influence them to work their own agenda, which is anarchy and chaos.
I thought that OReilly showed his ignorance by classifying the few rap groups that he mentioned as "Rap". True they were rappers but they aren't symbolic of all of Rap music. I thought it was irresponsible of him to label them as so, because I think those ultra conservatives who wanna believe everything he says are going to eat it up, and think of all Rap as being like the fools he mentioned. This is not going to promote tolerance.
All the people that he interviewed used the same excuse. "Isn't it up to the parents to determine what the kids see/do?" I used to use this excuse myself but now I see it as pretty weak. Even if you have a parent at home all the time to watch the household and the kids all the time I think this is unreasonable. Magazines, computers, TV, etc are all working at the same time all the time to influence children. I just think it's too hard to watch out for them all the time. Not to mention that most families have 2 working parents, unable to keep tabs on the kids at all time. Even if you raise your kids right, unless youre a Quaker your kids are going to be influenced by the society around them.
I can only talk about my experience as a boy/man. I had really good parents who taught me good morals and ethics(I think). However I loved seeing all the hot girls on TV and magazines when I was a kid and even though I was not allowed to do much more than study or play sports, I found ways to check them out. Boys will be boys I think and all I know is if I were a little boy now, I would be torured by all the T and A on TV. Not like I'm not tortured now, but atleast I have a hottie girlfirend to help me "manage".
But who knows maybe I'm just getting old...

I am 21 years old as well, but my point here is the corruption of children by media, if that is not obvious, I don't know what is. Today in one of my classes I was watching "cool hunting" a film by pbs, if you will be able to find it I advise everyone to see. The reporter discusses the point that it is the marketers that create the need for products for teenagers, not all oposite. He uses MTV as one example of creating idols or what is "cool". As an example was actually taken "Insane Clown Posse" that O'Reilly and EsDeeLoco mentioned. A few years ago the "Clown" were saying how much they hate the pop music and culture, and that they are for "certain" people and crap like that. But then MTV decided to change what is popular and "cool" and that is when we heard of Limp Buizkid and all this rap/rock music. And that is when the "Clowns" went publicly and signed HUGE deal with some recording company. And so on, the movie brought quite a few examples of TV affect on kids, and it was really disturbing.
The reaction of the entire class was pretty much the same, "it was disturbing", kids, have different priorities now, then we had at their age. All they want to do is to be cool, and TV sells them this "cool" it is cool to lose your virginity on the prom night, it is cool to have sex with as many people as possible. Where that comes from? WB - "Dawson's Creek", MTV - spring break, "Undressed" and so on....
Am I wrong???

this is a good point... it isn't 100% one way or the other... sometimes the "marketing establishment" just pulls stuff out of their collective @$$, knowing that they can MAKE it popular.
i've just got to do my best to show my kids that there are lots of ways to be cool... and boy is that going to be tough in middle school.

In many cases that is true. But making a generalized statement is like saying all blondes are stupid, which certainly isn't true. Children make up their own mind, as you and I did when we were their age. Not ALL kids are this way. The few you see that fit these stereotypes ruin it for everyone else. Not all kids are concerned with sex, trying to be "cool", dressing a certain way, acting a certain way.. I certainly wasn't that way, and I can name a few dozen people (still in their teenage years) who also aren't that way. For the most part, I can see that the media controls many faucets of a child's life. The media isn't the only ones to blame. And in the end, its the child who makes the decision. Does the kid know what to pick? Well, that has to do with how the child was raised, the environment in which he/she was brought up, whether he/she knows right from wrong, the difference between necessities vs. luxuries, and the faith from their parents and others that they will make the right decision when the time comes.
I personally don't like Limp Bizkit, rap, or any of that sort of music. Though sex is shown all over the media, it doesn't give me the urge to screw with the next girl I see. I can hold off until I get married. I don't think its cool to have pre-marital sex, and lose your virginity before you even graduate high school. Perhaps the media portrays that, but the media doesn't control my mind.. And for millions of other children, it doesn't control their minds either. On TV, it shows people gettin drunk, and drinking all the time. I see people all around me drinking and getting drunk too.. But does that mean I will too? I haven't had a drop of alcohol, with the exception of cough syrup and wine put in food, in my 21 years of existence. These are my morals, and I stand by 'em. I'm sure if you ask around, the kids whom everyone thinks of as delinquents, and do all this crazy crap, they have morals too..
