View Full Version : Antarctica? Yeah, maybe.....
Some of you may remember that I developed an interest in going to Antarctica to work. This was back in late August, and I talked about it a lot. At the end of October, I got a job at a biomedical research place. Coincidentally, one of their scientists had just left for Antarctica. Well, he's back now, and we've been talking. Turns out, he's tight with one of the uppity-ups down there. My time is up soon at my job (though I'd LOVE to be hired on permanent...) and he thinks that I could get on The Ice by October if I wanted to!
Neat, huh?

yeah they have to be real careful with all their pollution in antarctica. All the gas and oil and chemicals they use have to be specially contained and shipped out of there, along with all other garbage and what not because they dont want any pollution getting out there. Its like all ice and snow and rock so if you go, its gonna be a lot different in how you get rid of your trash.
hehe just a random fact:)

That's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I hope it works out for you. If I had the opportunity, I'd seriously jump at it. Granted, my wife would hate it because it seems like I'm always going off to some distant destination without her on business - but she'd understand... really... she would... I know she would... really

I know she would... really Relocating from 70° to -17°, versus not having to do your dirty laundry for a while ... Ya know, something tells me she wouldn't stop you. :P

That's awesome! Hope you have fun!
here u go.... a place in the antarctica:
[01:22] <GAM> Amundsen-scott is reporting:
[01:22] <GAM> Temp: -37F/-38C Wind Chill: -71F/-57C Humidity: NR (No Report)
[01:22] <GAM> Conditions : Overcast with wind at 20 mph
I'd be doing computer tech support, much like I'm doing now. Oh, and Amundsen-Scott is the South Pole station. I'd be at McMurdo, where it's a much more manageable -24 ;) Hell, during Summer it can even get a degree or two above freezing! :hehehmm:
