maybe my dream house... it's huge... the location is pretty good... i'm wondering what the heck is wrong with it and trying not to get to excited... only thing i can see is that it is a tri-level (doesn't offend me) and the heater will have to be replaced (big deal... you pay a guy to haul of the old one and put in the new one...)

gonna go see the inside soon, and if there aren't body parts falling out of the walls, we're probly making an offer!

roof was new in 2001... and heater is "as-is" (meaning: POS that you will have to replace, which i can accept... had to replace the one in my last house, and it can be a bite if you're not expecting the expense, but other than that it's painless...)

Ok, I am seriously jealous! That's awesome, WL! I'm crossing my fingers! (& toes, & eyes, etc. well, you get the picture. I look pretty damn funny right now. :) )

BTW, found out tonight that one of my old boyfriends (had a SERIOUS crush on him all the way through school & "went" together our 7th grade year - he was our saluditorian) lives in the same town as you! Wild!! :)

that's cool welfare. nice house.

i do have to pick on you though -- a tri-level pretty much makes you a mature, adult, suburban resident. are you SURE you want to do that to yourself? :P

Wow, beeyootiful and affordable housing! *trying not to turn green*

Best of luck regarding the house's innards and the rest of the buying process, so evilgremlin can have even MORE hiding spots to choose from! :hehehmm:

well, unless positiverolemodel flunks and has to repeat a year of school, we'll only live there three years, so we'll leave the summer before evilgremlin starts kindergarten...

we get to see it at 430 this afternoon! i'm takin my digital camera...

and golf schmolf. blech. i'd rather just sit in a lawn chair to suck a stogie and drink highballs... no reason to chase a ball around to justify that kind of behavior.

wow that's a beautiful house...and pretty darn close in price as my 2 bdrm condo (which i still have to take pictures of - after i get my furniture).

anyways....
bout that heater - try to get a home warranty thing as a part of the close, so that if it dies on you quickly, it'll be like a 50 buck deductible to replace that thing.

Man, that's amazing considering all the dead dot-com's. I hear the foreclosure market is red hot up there.

Looks like a great house, welfareloser. Best of luck!

a totally different story if you move to the other side of town over at East Palo Alto.. which is one of the highest crime rates in the country =P

You want even richer areas, go to Hillsborough.. and 1.25mil for that small little house.. in San Francisco, you can get a better deal than that..

If not California, where else is there LIFE in this country? :P Its great to be able to visit the beach, nice weather, and have things to do.. Though there is probably 10x the light pollution here, as well as other sorts of pollution, its where lots of things happen in da U.S. :)

okay, was worried about the 192 days on the market, but found out that they just dropped the price from 118,000 to 108,000, and there's nothing seriously wrong with it and we're gonna make an offer... it has a purple toilet and screaming green carpet and everything is original (35 years old) and still works. all the problems are very superficial and add up to one damned ugly package. we fix it up good!

also probably dint help the sellers that it had a VERY strong odor... "ethnic cooking." doesn't bother me any; turned prm's stomach pretty bad. but once all the packages of seaweed and dried fish are removed from the premises and the carpets are steam cleaned, the smell will disappear. the basement had absolutely not even a hint of mildew or wetness, which is a BIG concern around here, and the "as is" was only for the dehumidifier on the heater, not the heater itself. and very nice hardwood floors in the bedrooms. woohoo! some spackle, some paint, and it looks like i'm about to become a homeowner again... and this time with the right person ;)

Purple toilet? I didn't know you could even get one in that color. Is the green carpet shag?

Hope your offer gets accepted. There's no reason why it shouldn't with the house being on the market so long. It looks like your weekends will be busy for awhile playing 'This Old/New House'.

What are the property taxes like there? Eventually I'll probably get a house when I decide where to live. Here the taxes are higher than I'd like them to be.

of course it varies; for that house it'd be 2100 a year. so factoring in a 5% down payment... the mortgage, insurance, taxes, etc add up to less than $1000 a month ( i forget how much less, i think it was between 800-900.) places we were looking to rent were 800 a month for 1200 square feet OR LESS. it just doesn't pay...

it's AMAZING how many houses there are on the market right now here for 50-70,000 with 900-1400 square feet. my first house was 1380 square feet and there's no WAY 3 (soon-ish to be 4 or 5) of us could live in anything smaller than that... i guess those elf-hosues would be fabulous for a single grad student or two, but man, them just ain't fambly-type houses...

My parents paid less for their 2 bedroom 1 bath house than they did for my dad's new truck. Yep, 25 years ago they paid $21,500 for this house. A few years later they added a master bedroom and bath (so now it has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths). Then about 10 years ago we built a new 2 car garage (the old one was old and we were able to pull it down with a rope once we got all of the junk out of it).

Before my dad got his truck, he had the house valued to refinance (about 1 year ago). It was valued @ about $260,000.

Quite an investment, if you ask me. :)
