Should I get the WD 80GB (WD800BBRTL) or the Seagate I already got from Fry's ($139 - $50 MIR)? The WD 80GB costs only $38 + shipping + tax (see this Got|Deals thread (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=41992)).

Maybe Seagate has mended their ways but I still hate them for the 4 harddrives they sold me which died, all under warranty thankfully.
As long as its not IBM its okay.

amazing how IBM went from making the BEST drives to making unreliable POS's in such a short time. I wonder if anyone got fired because of it. :hmm:

Both are 7200RPM and from what I read (www.storagereview.com) the 'Cuda IV is quieter and cooler but WD is faster! I probably get the WD 'cauze it's cheaper! Thanz for your comments!

/me has a WD1000BB (100GB 7200rpm)
/me is very happy with his WD
/me would have normally avoided WD, but heard nothing but good about these drives
/me can prove that technology has greatly improved
/me recommends new Western Digital drives.
/me would have picked Seagate baracuda IV if he had not heard great things of new WD drives.
/me needs to send his 2 dead IBM 45GB 75gxps to IBM to get ones that work.

Windsor has a working 60 GXP drive
Windsor is very thankful that it is still working
Windsor would've gotten the Baracuda IV had it not been so expensive!
But to the topic, if you care about noise levels, get the Seagate, I haven't heard anything bad about the drive, either.
If you don't, I would jump on the 38 dollar WD.
That, is what Windsor thinks.
