I just logged onto my free ISP, Worldspy, to discover that they are apparently going out of business. Their home page was replaced by a page from Juno.com who is offering to furnish free ISP service in place of Worldspy and will arrange to have one's Worldspy email forwarded to Juno.
That sucks. Juno has an obnoxious floating ad banner plus now I'm going to have to change my email address at a zillion Web sites where I have membership accounts.
Does anyone know of any other good, free ISP's that do not have ad banners?

Freeweb is a semi-reliable service with no popup, free internet service, email, yada, yada, yada... www.freeweb.com (http://www.freeweb.com) for details

I haven't tried this yet http://www.freedsl.com/support/default.asp I doubt that they have free dsl in your area, only in a few areas now and you have to buy the dsl modem, but they offer free dial up without banners in many areas. If you try it, I would be interested in how you like it. I have used Freewwweb but bad luck with it, I do very well with Netzero. Netzero has banners, there are ways to disable banners, but it is against their policy.

No banner ads...

It was bound to happen. No banner ads and free ISP? They were probably losing money like crazy.

I have been using freewwweb.com for a few months now and have many problems with sending and receiving mail. Not too bad with not being able to log onto the internet but a lot of times it says that it cannot recognize my mail password. The first time it happened I contacted their server only for them to tell me that they are "currently having some issues with this problem". It happens a lot though. And, some people have to try and send things to me 2 and 3 times before it will go through. They will try to send me something and it will get returned, they will forward it and it will eventually go through. But it is a pain. Theres no banners though!

Another bad thing about freewwweb is that they only allow you 80 hours a month for service. If you exceed that they cut off your account until the first of next month. You can go to freei.net and locate there local dial in number for your area. Then sighn up and get you user name and password. Then just have you internet dialer dial the number with your info and there will be no banners.
They are SELLING the software??? You don't even NEED the "software". Just go to www.freewwweb.com, (http://www.freewwweb.com,) click on "the free deal" go to the link that says you already have a web browser, sign up, put the settings into dial-up networking, and you are done. Works just like my old .edu account. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

how does frewwweb.com work? i saw a box at (gasp) staples that "sells" the software.
so i "buy" the software, or registration, first? THEN, does it become free?
and for that matter? can anyone enlighten me more on the FREEXDSL.COM deal? seems like a good deal, but does anyone know how much the cable modem would be? since there are no standard modems yet, i assume they pretty much dictate the price. Would it be like freedsl.com(that seems to be going nowhere)? Will it have a floating banner?

Man, I am SO Bummed about WORLDSPY.COM getting bought up by Juno. I am staring at an abnoxious Netzero banner right now and I'm ready to punch my monitor. Oh Well. Def will be trying freei net with the workaround. no banners and free rocks! I hope it's as reliable as worldspy.

Try this one if it is available in your area. No ads, no telling how long it will last: www.freeatlast.com (http://www.freeatlast.com) Good connection rates averaging 48kps
I tried freedsl dial up today.
So far it was good except I have to float that winfire window on my screen.
I think I'll stick to this one because that winfire window is the smallest banner(actually not a banner but address bar) I ever seen on free access.

well, I'm on freewwweb now. Seems to be working fine. No problems so far anyway.
well if you still want to use worldspy and its software wont load i would try doing that hack where you plug in the info directly into dialup networking. For those who dont know how to do this refer to the post a month ago or so that explained this.
i am logged into worldspy currently now using dial up networking but my software wont work anymore.. heh go figure

that's bizarre fsck. I was using the hack and I would get signed on okay, then when I would open IE and try to surf the web, it would lock me on the "worldspy is dead" page and I couldn't move around at all.

okay, now I don't know what to think. I tried it again fsck, only I used freewwweb to sign on and log onto gotapex. then, I signed off, and used the old worldspy link, and voila...no problem, I'm free. How long can this last I wonder?

Has anyone else had their NetZero accounts using the DUN workaround killed recently? I lost like 4 accts in the span of a week...

The first thing I did as soon as I discovered that Worldspy was dead was to change my Worldspy email account to forward all email to my Hotmail account. This workeed for about 1 day. Then I stopped getting any mail forwarded from Worldspy. After sending test emails to Worldspy from another email account, I checked both my Worldspy account and the Hotmail account. Nothing was showing up.
Soon I realized that mother%&#@ing JUNO WAS HOLDING MY EMAIL HOSTAGE until I signed up for the Juno account. Once I signed up for Juno and established a forwarded relationship from my old Worldspy email account to my new Juno account.......I started getting my Worldspy email again.
Those f&%king sleazoids at Juno are forcing anyone who needs to get their Worldspy email to sign up for Juno!!!
I am now busily changing my email address of record at the zillion sites where I have emebership over to Hotmail. As soon as I have done this.....Juno is major history!!!
Worldspy really screwed their customers, first by providing zero advance notice that they were biting the big one.....AND....then perpetrated the penultimate sleazy, underhanded dirty trick of preventing access to Worldspy inbox email until you sign up for Juno.
I don't know if anyone else experienced this, but I did. Shame on Worldspy/Juno. Juno will, most definitely, never see me again!
