Im thinking of picking up a dvd pcmcia drive for my laptop so i can check out some videos on the road. Would it run fine on a P1-233 with 96mb ram laptop, or should i just save my $$?

Thanks

Do you have an inverter? If not, you might want to check the battery performance on your notebook. does it have enough power to play an entire dvd?

Power is not an issue i do have a inverter for the car and the new pcmcia drive also takes recharge batt.

so will it run?

According to most of the DVD decoding software requirements, you've got the memory, buy your processor is a little shy. Most of the major names require at least a PII 350. It's your call, but i'd recommend you save your money.

I highly doubt it would run. That would be software decoding and back in the day it was said that you need at leaste a 400-450Mhz to decode dvds fine in software mode. One of my home systems is a celeron A 300 running @ 450 and it is not perfectly smooth when plaing DVDs. It is definatly watchable, but just not fully the way it should be. I really doubt that a 233 would do it.
