View Full Version : 17.2GB for $99.99?
CompUSA is advertising a 17.2GB Ultra DMA 66 Hard Drive for $99.99. I was wondering if anyone knows if this drive is any good, such as what brand it is. This is a special 3 day only 4th of July sale, which ends on the 4th.

what do you mean by "only the names have changed to protect the lame.. hehe" are you saying that you think Maxtors are lame?
personal experience only, but Maxtors are the only drives I've ever bought that had bad sectors right out of the box. Called Maxtor tech support, and they have a policy that a dive is bad only when 10% of the drive is bad sectors http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
plus, sounding like a coffee can full of rocks tumbling down a cliff doesn't help much either http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
IBM and Seagate make good drives, but IBM's are the best, bar none.(BarracudaII's scream, but they produce small black holes in the universe because of the heat generated) IMHO, of course

making this even more off-topic, i personally like and use Western Digital drives.. I've had great success, and they are usually a fraction cheaper than seagates..
oh well... to each his own...

Comp USA=Maxtor. These are identical drives. Maxtors are probably IMHO, the second best hd company. No doubt IBM is top. Seagates are decent but their scsi drives are better. Be careful with Western Digital, they've been having trouble with a lot of their drives going bunk after a few months. But not bad of a company.
