how much better is the diamondtron over the trinitron tubes?

from tech people ive spoken to, most all flat tube technology is derived from the same sony developed technology, but sony tubes are always considerably heavier than others due to thicker glass. i dont know if that translates into better picture or more likely chance of a hernia but im happy with my wega as long as i dont have to lift it

oops, i thought you were talking about tv's not monitors. as far as i know, all trons are sony's as has been said by hapoo and chosen and many are even made by sony's own factories.

They're very similar. Most people find the top of the lines of both to be pretty close in color saturation and sharpness (.24mm stripe pitch for the diamondtron, .22 for the sony).

Yeah they're pretty much the same. I've had a 17" trinitron and now using on my main box a Mitsu diamondtron. . . pretty much the same. Only thing different I notice, but it is unfair since they aren't really competitive with each other (17" vs 22"), the Sony seems to have better contrast but the mitsu has a more "colorful" or I guess better saturation. Might be just my eyes though. Anyhow, either way I'd be happy with a sony or mitsu.

Pretty much everything Sony makes seems less colorful next to displays from other companies. This is most evident in the digital video cam arena. Sony devices tend to get a closer reproduction of "true" colors and light levels, resulting in images that look overall lighter than others.

It really comes down to preference. Some people prefer the "over" saturated colors of Samsung, NEC, Canon, etc. while others like Sony.

how much are looking to spend? i just picked up a 21" sony fd trinitron from dell for 4 bills and change. it isnt sony's top of the line 21", but IMO thier 3rd best 21" crt and 4th best crt overall but i really needed it. im coming from a 13.x" viewable screen. for me, it wasnt worth the extra money to get the higher resolution and i will rarely ever use it in the near future. and by the time i do, ill have a dlp projector capable of hdtv, progressive scan dvd and all the other video goodies i need.

this was what i saw (http://www.samsungmonitor.com/html/products/900nf.htm) . with slight exception to the scanning frequency and weight of the 2 monitors, all the other specs are exactly the same. they are probably both sony technology. i think i recall that samsung uses diamondtron tubes, but i may be mistaken
