im just curious to know if its got TV-OUT, or if those TV-Out jacks/connectors are fully functional. im looking to hook the box to the TV (thats why i call it TV box).

also, it doesnt say if the graphics memory SHARE with the MAIN memory (it probably does...).

but looking around shuttle's website, they have some small form factor motherboards that i can use instead. problem now is looking for a case small enough (i really want to use my old TNT card because it has a good TV-OUT with it, plus i can hook more than 1 hard drive in it).

by the way, how much is the SV25?

I'm not sure on this, but I think anandtech might have done a little thing about the shuttle mobo and cases that fit it, so that might be a place to find a good case.

Well, I went to anandtech and they did do and article on the SV24, an older model and the case is sold by Shuttle, too, as part of a barebones system. So you would have to find someone that sells the SV24/25 barebones system, usually around 250, I think.

yeah the cooler's that this can hold is limited, but with a Celeron 1.0 I don't think heat is going to be a problem. She really likes the size of this PC, "it is cute"

she says she wan't to buy a pre-built ( Dell/HP ) but I won't let her, this barebone is as close to pre-built I said she could go....

she is thinking about it and really thinks she is going to go with this with

8-16x DVD
60gig HD ( on sale this week 7200rpm Maxtor for around $80 from OfficeDepot )
and then a wireless keyboard/mouse larter
and 1gig o ram

If you worry about heat, buy W|zard's, get the VIA chip, that thing runs like a freezer. I'm planning on making an mp3 box for my car, based on the shuttle SV24, i might just buy the barebones and use a VIA c3.

well I am not thinking that it should get to hot...

now what is the Dif. between the SV24 & SV25???...

sho.gun
04-15-2002, 11:09 AM
The SV25 uses a newer chipset, called the VIA VT8606T. The old SV24 usesthe VIA VT8604.

you can compare em here:

SV25 supports Tualatin
SV24 doesn't

That's the only differences

DoPeY5007
04-15-2002, 11:27 AM
ok... what is "Tualatin"

Wizard
04-15-2002, 11:32 AM
Tualatin is the new incantation of the P3. Just like with Athlon there is Thunderbird, Thoroughbred, Palomino. P3 had Coppermine, Tualatin... and forgot the other one.

Tualatin CPUs are not backward compatible with other P3s so hence the updated chipset.

Tualatin CPUs are sold up to 1.4GHz and are equal to Thunderbird 1.4 in performance. Actually I have seen Tualatin beat Thunderbird several times.

DoPeY5007
04-15-2002, 11:37 AM
ahhh ok, that is what I though, I just wasn't sure....

 I just did a little look Celeron 1.3 for under $90 (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=19-112-160)

I think I will recomend this chip for her

Wizard

DIMM x 2
Up to 512MB of 168-pin PC100 /PC133 SDRAM but looks like the SV25 can only hold 512, so I will have he max it out

I have an SV24. Mine was having problems figuring out how fast the processor really is. I think that is because I have an engineering sample in it. all the retail chips i put in worked fine.

oh well :( I think I should have waited 1 month until the sv25 came out.

The one thing I do not like about it is that the rear case fan is kinda noisy. but I suppose it's needed since it's the only fan circulating air. (i don't think the 40mm powersupply fan counts...)

Also, I don't know how well it works with windows. I run linux on it.

so howmuch does one of them set somebody back? Would make a nice linux system

Pinkgirl36
10-23-2002, 10:47 AM
Well I think it came up to about $500-$600 for everything. I love it, it's small, which is the main reason I wanted it because I don't need some bigass computer.

I think it's the perfect "girl" computer if they don't do much stuff, I will use it mainly for my online classes and typing up papers...perfect for me...

and well if I ever want I can just build a bigger computer in normal size and this can get used to put linux or something on...

I got the SS51G last month, P4 2.26B Ghz, 512MB DDR333 CL2, 60GB HD, ATI 9000 64MB and Windows XP Pro. Very quiet and stable. I had a TI4400 in it for games but because it is my "demo" unit I changed it to a more practical card. The on board video is very good but not for playing games (that's a given).

From the News link. I was looking to get one like u did Pink but then I saw this.

Does ur's or does this model have an AGP slot? Anyone know?

smurphy
10-23-2002, 01:04 PM
That model does have an AGP slot. All XPC version do. Earlier versions like the one PINK has do not. A new version SB51 has the new Intel 845PE chipset and another with NForce2 is coming also, both will have an AGP slot and another PCI slot.

For Immediate Release / 10-7-2002

Shuttle Announces XPC SB51G, "HyperThreading(tm) in a Cube"

Shuttle Inc., a leading provider of innovative motherboards, barebones, and accessories, today announced the latest addition to its growing line of XPC small form factor barebones. The Shuttle XPC SB51G, successor to the world's famous XPC SS51G, advances Shuttle's small form factor leadership yet again. As the originator of the small form factor barebones concept, Shuttle leads the market in terms of both sales and innovation.

The Shuttle XPC SB51G leverages the new IntelŪ i845GE chipset to achieve new levels of performance and integration. The IntelŪ i845GE, when coupled with Shuttle's high quality 6 layer motherboard design and manufacturing, guarantees the best in stability, reliability and longevity.

Measuring only 300mm (L) by 200mm (H) by 185mm (W), the XPC SB51G is the smallest full featured Pentium 4 system available. The XPC SS51G, like the entire XPC series, sets high end desktops as its feature target, not low end set top boxes and slim PCs. To this end, the XPC SB51G supports a incredible array of features, including:

HyperThreading(tm)
The Shuttle XPC SB51G is the first small form factor PC to support Intel's HyperThreading(tm) technology, which allows the use of two virtual processors with only a single IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 processor. This allows significant performance increases in applications optimized for dual processors.

Shuttle I.C.E.
The XPC SB51G incorporates Shuttle's patented Integrated Cooling Engine(tm) technology, which allows the XPC SB51G to not only be the world's most powerful small form factor PC, but also one of the quietest. Shuttle I.C.E. technology removes the need for a processor fan with the use of heat pipe technology, significantly cutting down on fan noise while effectively cooling high speed IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 processors.

Extreme Connectivity and Upgradeability
Like all XPC's, the SB51G offers the best in external and internal connectivity. Technologies such as IEEE-1394 Firewire(tm), USB2.0, IntelŪ Extreme Graphics(tm), the latest 400 and 533MHz IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 processors, high fidelity 5.1 channel sound with optical SPDIF in and out, dual ATA100 channels, up to 2 gigabytes of the latest DDR333 memory, 10/100 Ethernet, up to two standard 3.5" hard disks and one 5.25" optical drive, and 1/1 full size AGP/PCI expansion.

According to Tom's Hardware, "Verdict: "Mini" has maxi future. The performance of the ultra-compact PC system is no small feat: equipped in the THG lab with ingredients such as Intel P4/2533, GeForce 4 Ti 4600 and DDR333 RAM, the Shuttle can easily take on high-performance big towers. Computers in the discount class don't have a chance."

The Shuttle XPC SB51G is sampling now, and will be available starting November 2002.

Cheers,
Scott Murphy

That's fine with me. I do most of the stuff in the dark anyways, so this should cast a nice eery light around everything. Yeah a LCD monitor and a little shuttle should be fine for portable gaming systems. Ugh.. need money, now for pretty computer :D

I have the SS51G with the blue lighted front panel. Here is what I have inside:

P4 2.0a O/C 2.4Ghz
512MB Samsung Cas2 DDR333
120GB WD SE 8MB
160GB WD SE 8MB
Onboard Sound (5.1 to my Klipsch Promedias)
Onboard Video (I had my Albatron ti4200 turbo in it but it is now in my new 2400XP Gaming rig. I will probably put my Geforce3 in here once I get a new fan as it is noisy and going to die soon)
Leadtek Winfast 2000XP TV/Radio Tuner
Lite-On 40x12x48 in External USB 2.0 case

I am using this as my TV/DVD player/file server now. I have my 21" Dell/Sony monitor hooked to it. I have a Replay TV 4504 hooked directly to the second input of the monitor (Replay has VGA out) and Optical Digital audio out from the Replay to the ss51G. Sounds and looks awesome with Dish.

That's one nice thing about the SS51G; it comes with a blue power LED and a red HD Led. That blue LED is friggin bright. You could almost read a book up next to that thing when the room lights are off at night.
