Best deal is to get the $99 Palm, sell it, then choose the PDA that best suits you.

techhi,

Your friend must be confused with a Hoover, they suck...

The PalmIII is a good PDA, I've been a beta tester for 3Com now Palm and have tested all the models from the 1st Palm up to the IIIc, which is the current model, I am using now.

It all comes down to your personal taste, my wife likes the Vx and I perfer the IIIc. The best advice is to go down to your local Staples or Best Buy and actually try out the units and see if it meets your needs and then buy the one with the best deal.

I just recently tried the Pocket PC HP Joranado, pretty neat nice case, also in color and accepts pc cards, so you can share your network and modem cards from your laptop, you could also play mp3's, but I feel that it takes too many steps to do a simple task that the palm perfoms, quickly and easily. If you want the above features in a Palm OS based PDA, wait till the end of the year when Sony releases their model capable of playing mp3's and supporting the memory stick, in a case that is smaller than the current Palm V and has a toggle wheel for 1 handed operation similar to the Joranado.

Just FYI...

Don't forget about the www.citifi.com (http://www.citifi.com) deal which was posted before.

Deposit $500 for 6 months into an account and receive a free Palm IIIe. You will need to make a deposit every month (can be 1 dollar). I heard you can let your account go below $500 to the account minimum so you can withdraw some of your money right away, although I did not do that.

I signed up over the phone so you can ask lots of questions (1-800-224-8434 24 hours a day). Use promotion code 'cp', expires at end of August as far as I know.

They will send the Palm IIIe after about 2 months in a 'good faith' gesture. I am due to receive mine in August and am fully confident I will receive it. I've asked several times about it when I've spoke to customer service and they always verify the promotion. I will post when I receive it, but it may be near the expiration time.

Tip:
When they mail your application, return it with a utility bill statement (original) showing your address. I received a letter later on asking for this to verify my address which delayed the process about 2 weeks. The address on my check I sent wasn't good enough!

Good luck!!

Call them and ask if the promotion is still good and what the monthly minimum deposits are as my info is 2 months old.

Can you open up a 6-month cd for the palm deal?

I think you can open a 6 month cd, but not sure if you can make the monthly deposit to it. Find out for sure by calling the 800 number and asking what works with the 'cp' promotion. Using code 'cn' also gets the Palm IIIe.

I just opened a savings account for $500, but a better way may be opening a money market with $1000 minimum for a higher interest rate.
