Most likely just gobbled down an already-dead drowning victim...

Otherwise the attack probably would have been noticed and reported when it occured.

Still, kind of makes me rule out burial at sea as an option when I die.

Why do people keep hiding in sharks?

Tiger sharks are the garbage collectors of the sea. They will eat anything, and I do mean anything, that they find in the ocean. They have found things like license plates, shoes, hub caps, sea turtles, and I believe the head of a manequin in killed tiger sharks.

The main problem with them is that they are extremely large sharks and like to frequent extrememly shallow (and thus inhabited) waters. I remember when I was in the BVI we were on our way to Antigua and passing over a couple of really nice looking reefs and a wreck. A couple of us wanted to drop anchor and take a quick snorkel around, but the "captain" of the boat (a native who "owned" an island nearby) said that would not be a good idea. He explained that since his island was nearby he had been diving and living around here his whole life, he had actually "adopted" a pet on this reef. His pet was a now 10 foot Tiger shark and even he didnt go into the water there anymore.

Always thought that was funny.

I'm sure they could have identified the body if the poor soul was eaten by this shark (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=585&e=1&cid=585&u=/nm/20020422/sc_nm/environment_safrica_shark_dc_1) . And maybe even room for one more.:P

"I wouldn't be surprised if someday some fishermen caught a big shark and cut it open, and there inside was a whole person. Then they cut the person open, and in him is a little baby shark. And in the baby shark there isn't a person, because it would be too small. But there's a little doll or something, like a Johnny Combat little toy guy---something like that." -Jack Handy

The chances of getting eaten by a shark are pretty rare and there are plenty of things that you can do to help inprove your odds.

http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/Sharks/ISAF/ISAF.htm

I really think the ocean is worth the risk, its such an awesome experience to be out there that even if I did get eaten I would rather be doing something I love than sitting at home watching people on TV doing stuf that looks really cool. BTW as far as staying safe at home, check out these stats...chances are you're going to injure yourself on the toilet before you get bit by a shark!

One of my friends was one of those fools... he almost cut his leg off!
He wasnt paying attention properly when cutting a tree and when the chain got jammed he set it loose and the chain saw cut loose and tore halfway through his leg!
