I don't know what happened, it was fine a couple days ago but now whenever i try to play a song off the network, try to access a file on a network share, etc. the application doing the accessing just freezes up on me. I'm running Winxp pro with all the patches. Any idea's?

well, the problem is that http is working fine for the most part. only fails when trying to access a shared drive.

heh.. i dunno if its XP or what.. my network computers can't see each other now. Mine is running XP, sister's is runnin win2k. for some reason, after updating all the drivers, i can't get both hooked up to my router for dsl. can only hook dsl directly into my system to work.. so im stuck like u r =P

wow, the impossible happened. It was the linux box's fault! one of the buttons on the keyboard was held down, i wonder if that had anything to do with it. Anyway, i just rebooted, and now everything works :D

yeah, but I had the same exact problem, and replacing the nic fixed it. Accessing a shared drive isn't the same as acessing http.
But, sounds like you found the problem.

are you sure by installing another nic you didn't cause the computer to reinstall the networking protocols?

fairly sure, yes, as I tested the card in other PC's and it showed the same behavior. When hardware starts to futz out, it can do odd things.
