Ok, I'm planing to make a box for using as a "component" with my ht setup. I will be using it for playing video files and mp3's I have. But I wanted to know if this is possible to do or if there are small lcd monitors out there. I was thinking of something under 10" so that I could easily hinge it to the side of the case so it can be used only when needed. I was thinking of getting some old laptop or something and using the screen but not sure how it would work with the video card. . . anyhow I'm basically lost with hardware. Just need to know if this is possible to do.

Basically you can hook up those small LCD's (~$100) that are for cars, most of the time they even have RCA inputs so all you need is a tv out on your vid card. As far as using a laptop lcd... I wouldn't do it, not only it is very complicated but you'll also need to buy ~$300 adapters to convert the video signals into something the screen will understand.

Hmm. . . well I would like to be able to connect the lcd to a vga port since I'll be using the tv out to the receiver and wouldn't want to split the line. Anyhow, I need to research some more I guess and figure out exactly how I'm gonna work this out.

That sounds pretty cool. Where do I get one of those LCDs? I've got an "extra" TV out port on my Radeon7500 card that I'd like to put to use.

I think he's talking about those protable units you can get at bestbuy and stuff that are meant for your car.

AmdMB had a review of something that might fit what you're looking for. I think it's smaller than what you want, but the same guys who manufacture the LCD they review make other sizes as well.

You can check 'em out here:

That thing is something what I'm looking for I guess. I'm just looking for something thats clear enough I can do some simple tasks without having a monitor hooked up to the system. But my only jive is that its using the s-video port. . . is there a similar lcd with a vga input instead or is there even a vga to s-video converter? I'm guessing that might be the simplest thing so I can have two clean s-video outputs without having to splice it.

I only know of a few LCD screens under 15" that have VGA inputs, and all of them are well over $800. If you really want one though, you can find a couple of 12 inchers on www.pricegrabber.com.
