hahahahaha. now yer pickin' on yerself. so don't be surprised if we do it to :P

actually, my sig was conceived during a conversation with my GF and her parents about various people we know (mostly people she and i went to HS with, etc) and they're all out doing absolutely stupid, idiotic things, acting with a complete absence of responsibility, paying no attention to the consequences of their actions, etc.

i realized that for them, life is pretty good. i mean, i don't have the freedom to just do "whatever", because i tend to think about the consequences and since i don't want my life to be completed f*cked up, i try to behave in a mostly responsible fashion.

but if you're an idiot, and you don't have the capacity to think about these things, then you just go through life having fun. what's more, since you have such limited self-awareness, when you are completely buried in a hole you dug for yourself, you probably don't even realize that you're in trouble. you just keep on doing your thing. what a happy life.

so yes, my belief is that life is so much more fun if you do not have the capacity to rationally analyze your actions.

what astounds me daily is how stuff generally works out for them, too

i can't begin to tell you how often i've run into people that have gotten further in school or career than i have...but are just blithering. i prolly don't have to tho...cuz we all meet them, and they stick out in our minds for days or weeks.

here's a paraphrased conversation between me and a prominent idiot from recent history (he's actually the star idiot from the backstabbing co-workers thread). assume for the sake of the passage that i'm not the idiot in the conversation.

me: "ya, i don't get the whole reasoning behind the smoking ban in bars. they could just have smoking bars and non-smoking bars."

idiot: "well, if someone is smoking in a bar, i should just kill them. they're taking away my right to breath clean air."

me: "well, killing people isn't the same thing here."

idiot: "well, i should have the right to kill people. you're saying that they should be able to smoke, so i should be able to kill people."

me: "no, i'm saying that people can be given a choice as to where to go. non-smokers can go to a bar to have a smoke-free environment. smokers can go to a smokers' bar. no muss, no fuss. smoking is supposedly legal, but the law implies otherwise. the law infringes on the right to smoke."

idiot: "well, then you're infringing on my right to kill people."

me: "you don't have a right to kill people." *big puzzled look on face*

idiot: "ya, and they don't have the right to smoke. that's what i'm saying."

i'll spare you the length of the conversation...but let's just say it went on like that for a good 10 or 15 minutes. i can appreciate a good debate on smoking or whatever...but i was astounded that he would actually use such a thing as "my right to kill people" as...logic.

I don't think I've ever heard the expression "ignorance is bliss" (essentially what his sig sys - :P ) explained at quite this length before.

That would explain why politicians smile so much... ;)

hmmmm.....interesting logic there. i never knew that "the right to kill people" was so similar to the "right to smoke". i'll have to remember that for future evidence.
