whats the best way to clear EVERYTHING off of a hard drive?

put a strong magnet to it.. hmm, i think torching it would clean it quite well too.. :) but if u still wanted to use the drive, then yeah, just format :)

um how would i go about doing that as i havnt had to ever really do it....

well, are you using the HD as your primary HD? If you're installing lets say Windows XP, then plop in the disc, reboot the computer, set it so it reads from CD on boot, and then go through the setup. The setup will ask you if you wanna completely wipe the HD, or install over the existing OS.

If its just a slave drive, you can format through DOS prompt typing
format driveletter:
for specific format features, u can type "format /?" at the prompt. Without the "'s of course.

If you are in fact using Windows, as I'm sure not many are able to escape from Microsoft's monopoly, click on My computer. All your drives should show up there. right click on the drive you wanna format, and then the options should be right there, left click on format.


Of course there are probably a few more ways to do it, I'll let other people go in depth bout that :)
