View Full Version : Are Krispy Kremes really that good?

Minnesota got a Krispy Kreme donut shop after being without one for more than 25 years. Thousands of people showed up and cars were lined up 75 at a time to go through the drive-thru. I guess they had people park in a remote lot and had a shuttle bus bring them to the store.
Are they really that good? I'll be within a few miles of the place tomorrow, is it worth a stop?

mmmmmmmm......doughnuts!
ok, so that sums up my feeling about doughnuts. yummy yummy yummy.
so from that standpoint, krispy kremes are great.
but compared to a lot of other doughnuts, i definitely don't think they are any better. some people may like them better, but personally i could just as well eat doughnuts from dunkin doughnuts or a local bakery and think they taste just as good.
if you're by the store in a couple months, once things have calmed down and you don't have to wait 2 hours to get a doughnut, it's worth trying. i mean, they're good. but i really don't think they're worth the hype all you minnesota people are putting on them

they're the best when they're warm...if you get a box that's not so warm, just nuke em in the microwave. ~10 secs should do the trick.

The only good ones are the original glazed and they have to be eaten warm. Other than that, they're just doughnuts.

They're good, but I wouldn't wait in line for hours...
They ARE better than Dunkin Donuts, IMHO.
The glazed ones are nice and light so you could pack away a whole dozen if you worked at it...

THEY GOING TO BE HUGH!!!
Another starbuck coming on the scene...
I've only had the glazed donuts from there and I didn't think they are tha good. I personally liked dunkin donuts more.

They are alright. I'm not a big donut fan so they all taste the same to me.

I really like Krispy Kremes...they are best when warm, but they are much lighter than Dunkin Donuts. I can't wait till we get one here in Oregon!

If you get them right off the machine, and the glaze is still liquid... there's nothing better. Heck, I've bought empty shells because they were fresh. Other than that... they're just donuts.
i ate 3 boxes in a row once...
mmm.. so light, so sweet... so good... i've been ruined by them, I can't ever eat another "normal" glazed doughnut...

I hope you're not originally from Kansas, cause the Krispy Kremes there would be... well, you figure it out:eyebrow:

Personally, I think Krispy Kremes are great, but I wouldnt wait in a mile long line for one. I remember when Krispy Kreme first came out here to San Diego area and they were featuring it on the news and everything. I thought it was funny as hell, because there were people who actually drove miles and waited forever in a line. I mean come on, its just a really good donught. I guess it all depends on whether or not you grew up with them.
On the same note: I have noticed out here in California is that I have yet to see a freaking Dunkin Donuts. On the east coast they are all over the place.

I love krispy kreme donuts, and I used to not like donuts. It's definitely not worth that kind of wait, but KK donuts are the only donuts i'll eat. They're so sweet and fluffy, it's like lard candy...mmmmmm.

Now granted I do like other doughnuts as well, but there is just something about a KK doughnut late at night when the HOT! sign is lit...
You get a box of them thangs and a cold glass of milk and you have what I consider a "feast fit for a king".
Now the caveat to KK doughnuts... they have a shelf life of about 12 to 18 hours... any more than that, and they start turning to concrete.
Granted, you can nuke 'em for 15 seconds... (but be careful cause any more than that and they turn "thermonuclear" from the high sugar/starch content and when they cool they'll be hard as bricks and nasty.)
But hands down I think KK doughnuts are the best... and a special treat for when I go back home where I can get them fresh (here in Indy, there is only one location that still makes fresh ones all the rest are stocked in the doughnut cabinet of grocery stores, gas stations, etc...)
Finally, as far as flavors... I like the original, chocolate covered, choc/peanut covered, crullers (sp? I used to call them "tractor tires"), lemon filled, raspberry filled, and chocolate. :lick: YUMMY!!!!
Dayuuum this post is makin' me homesick... :bawl:
Damn DF, everytime there is a thread about junk food/fast food you seem to like it. One of these days we are gonna have to work on that diet.

I like them. I will not wait in a long line, though. That is why I only go there if I happen to go to a really late movie (there is one in the shopping center where one of the theaters is that I normally go to). I will stop by after and grab some doughnuts. Even then, there are a few people in line.

they're good, but i'm afraid of eating them now. someone told me that one donut has about as much fat as three big macs, or something like that. they're good, but not THAT good. i'd rather get that fat from a nice piece of juicy steak.

About buying stocks in 'em.. i think ya already missed the boat, I think they're too high now IMO.. but what do i know, i dont play stocks..
The donuts are pretty good.. as everyone said, right when its fresh and warm is the best! its a tad bit sweeter than any others that i've ever tasted.. what i think is cool is that they give ya free trials while u're waiting in line.. just go wait in line, eat to your delight, and leave after u've freeloaded 'nuf :P

There is a place called Shipley's Donuts in Houston...and those donuts were the bomb!

i love how they melt in your mouth like soft butter when they come right off the machine. beats dunkin donuts and winchell's. i can't stand donuts from either of those two chains.

heh.. before Daly City (right outside San Fran) had one (within the past 9 months), I'd drive to Mountain View (35-40 mins drive) just to get it. Well, of course In & Out was there too.. is it just me or are lots of Krispy Kreme's located near In & Outs? And about them In & Out burgers.. used to think they were so delicious.. now im gettin sick of it..

Ha... I beg to differ. I remember I was stopped at a sobriety checkpoint (I was sober, but I was right by the UCI campus... And you know them college kids!) in Irvine after coming from Krispy Kreme. I offered the police officers some Krispy Kreme doughnuts since I had like 4 dozen in the car with me. They declined. The officer said, "This is Irvine, son. We don't eat doughnuts here. We eat bagels and drink gourmet coffee."
kk donuts are great. the glazed are the best around. other than that, they're just donuts. and while the glazed are the best around, they don't have a monopoly on my donut fetish...er...i'm also seeing other donuts. that is to say...ahh never mind.

when you play with and eat your donuts, do you remember to use protection? :hehehmm: i mean you wouldnt want to spread your germs to the other donuts ya kno? :nono: that would just ruin the taste! are you sure you could finish all that too? i mean nobody would want the donuts after you've been through all of 'em! :puke: :heh:

The fresh hot glazed or double chocolate glaze are really that good. Not waiting in line for good. I am inpatient so I wait for nothing. But if I needed sugar that bad, I would make my husband wait in line.
I love KK donuts but they are like lard coated Valium. One I am fine, two and I am useless for the day. They send me into a sugar coma.

I've only had one (glazed original), and as far as I could tell, the dough was slightly more light/fluffy.
They had a grand marketing scheme, though. Before I even knew what they sold, I was hearing the name "Krispy Kreme" associated with Hollywood stars. Naturally, when more locations started popping up, people had to see what was so amazing that stars & starlets would cheat on their strict diets.
Is it just me, or are KK's located in the 'burbs? If you don't make it centrally-available, it's that much more elite. Around here, some people will go an hour out of their way to get KK's. Local coffee shops buy a box in the morning and charge as much as $2 per donut!

For those of you who enjoy baseball, they may offer it at the games too. At least they do at Pacbell Park here in San Francisco. :) Though as with everything else at the game, it costs more.
