I am helping a friend of mine set up a home network, using a Linksys router and a cable modem. He has three computers and I have been able to get two of them on the network, however the third was unsuccessful. The length of cable from the router to this computer is approximately 75 feet. Is this too far for a small linksys router to provide signal? He replaced the cable a couple of times so we know thats not the problem. I tried connecting my laptop to the line with the same result, so we know its not the computer. I also tried every port on the router, even with no other computers on it to make sure it's not a dead port. The only thing I can think of is that the router is not generating enough signal strength to make it 75 feet. However nowhere in the manual can I find anything that gives any distances.
What do you guys think? If it is the router, is there any kind of signal booster for long distances that you know of? Or do they make home network routers that have stronger signal strength?
Thanks!

Hmmm that's interesting. I have a spool of cable and a tester that I made all these cables from. I tested the lines and they all came up good. It is possible that the cable quality is not very good(I purchased the cheapest spool available) so this might be causing the problem. I did tell him to go purchase one from the store, just to make sure and so we don't have to worry about looking for a new router. Hopefully this works.
Thanks Dizzopester.

yeah my 100ft, is store bought ( cheap price though ;) )
I have about 110 feet running up the bedroom wall, through the attic and down into the living room with no problems. And yes its Linksys setup also. I belive the max with cat5 is 350 feet before you will need to boost the signal with a switch, hub etc.
