The loss also came at a price for the Islanders, who saw defenseman Kenny Jonsson and center Michael Peca leave the contest early with injuries after questionable hits.

Jonsson left in the first period after being slammed into the boards from behind by Gary Roberts, who was assessed a major penalty for charging.

Peca -- one of the top checking forwards in the league -- left in the second period with a sprained left knee after being undercut

I'm not a big hockey fan but I've been watching a lot of highlights on ESPN. Some of those hits are brutal!

you mean you havent seen that hit that, that one boston defenseman put on zitnik, hes got a broken jaw and a bunch of other messed up parts in his face and neck area.

also detroit, Brain Burke, Vancouver's GM complained a few days back about how detroit is allowed to nearly tackle people without a call. he also said, to the extent of; "our goalie wears larger pads then the rest of our team, he also wears a large mask, and he doesnt fall down if he is brushed or pushed(like hasek)" he also said "Todd Bertuzzi IS on the Canucks even though he is wearing 2-3 red sweaters at any given time in a game" "Sudin is not punch me or put me in a head lock in english", "it is odd that Detroit has 12-13 capatains/ assistances most teams have 2-3 to complain about calls."

If you are a professional player, play clean!! There are clean hits and there are coward hits. The once I described were the coward hits, another one of those hits was on Zhitnik (read xsiled2) and last year play offs also Toronto's Demi's hit on NJ player that broke his noise and almost killed him.

They actually call Hockey "sports". There is definitely no sportsmanlike conduct in that game as well as many others. They should just call it entertainment and also leave the news out of the Sports section of the local newspapers.
