Mel Gibson intends to quit acting
Mel Gibson says he plans to "get out of acting".
Gibson says he intends to spend more time directing and producing films.
He says he is getting "too old for all this jumping around".
Gibson told www.theage.com.au: "I love the game, but I think I'll probably focus more on directing stuff and producing stuff and maybe just come out with something that's really extraordinary and get in front of the camera."
"I'm just finding that I'm getting more involved producing and developing projects," he said.
"I've been sitting around with writers cooking books and ideas and trying to be creative. That's the most fun for me now. We're loaded with stuff, it's really cool the stuff we're releasing and the stuff we have in development."
"I loved getting my Oscars but that's not what influences decisions like this," Gibson said. "I like directing and I like acting but Braveheart proved to me that doing them at the same time is a test of your sanity.
"I've done more acting than directing so it's where the challenge is. And if I do some hands-on producing, which I want to do, something has to give".
