i get this card that says I'm a "premier" status member.
It gives me "priority check-in". Great, now i have to only wait 2 and 1/2 hours instead of the usual 3 hours.

3 hrs?! I usually only go 2 hrs in advance, and thats usually sufficient.

i hate united. i always have bad experiences when i'm flying with them.
northwest is seriously the most reliable airline i've used (of course, flying out of detroit, you have the most choices with them, but still, they tend to run on time, have fewer weird problems, etc)

Damn Psycho!
You had to do a bit of flying in the last year to get Premier status. Some of the nice perks include accrual of mileage faster than normal mileage plus members and business/first class priority upgrades when they are available. I've currently got about 40,000 miles on United/Star Alliance thanks to all the flying I've had to do for work (Europe, Japan).

continental was the worst....i always had to fly through their cleveland hub  the "D" concourse at hopkins airport -- a place of many bad memories for me, as i'd sit on thursday evenings, really wanting to get my connector to detroit but always being delayed.

United has been a pretty good experience for my family. My dad has flown 2+ million "earnable" miles and have like 8+ million miles under his belt if you include all the accrued award travel, gifts, etc.
He has lifetime member status because he's a million mile + flyer.
Quite a few Reservation, check-in, red carpet club, etc. people know him pretty well.
So, in return, we get pretty good treatment from the airline (flowers, cookies, gifts, etc.) and I get free upgrades all the time :P

(i saw an ad a couple weeks ago with one of their million-mile flyers who had a plane named after him)
