What is SVCHOST.EXE?

Anyone know what "svchost.exe" is ? It shows up undre "Processes" in my Task Manager like 5 times. As a Local Service, a Network Service and 3 times as a System Services.

i have the same file running 4 times using about 25mb of memory

its like a code name or symbol for the service groupings that run from DLL's. You'll have multiple instances of them and its normal. Supposedly its easier for debuggin' or something.
