View Full Version : Post stories of RAID HD successes / failures here

I just dumped my primary OS and am currently reinstalling Win2000 on a 120 GB RAID striped drived (40x3).
So...I feel like I'm skirting the ragged edge of disaster, as so many ppl in the past have warned - "if one drive fails, the whole kitan'kaboodle fails!"
Of those running RAID 0 out there...
How has your luck been?

I'm running my array as my primary (as only) HD...with everythign on it. I'm prolly screwing myself...but until something bad happens, I'll be blissfully naive.

I have 2 30's in my RAID0, all that is on it is temp files, backup files and the OS, so if it dies I don't loose anything.... Everything important is on other drives ( and the back up to those drives is on the RAID0 )
I have been very happy moving to RAID0

yep, I have a large swap file, large IE temp folder, and PS scratch disk on the second partition on the RAID

system specs you see below.. my 75gb ibm drive went bad.. so i think both of them are goners. raid 0 setup.. since i ordered 4 of those 120gb's, i think i might sell one.. and go for a raid 5 setup this time 'round.
oh yeah.. my first raid card.. the highpoint.. had conflicts with my mb, and other devices.. my new one, 3ware, works like a charm. :) costs a pretty penny or a few benjamins.

I just removed one of my 40G (the one I've been running for two years now) and made that my primary, no-RAID, drive. I'll put games, media, and my tmp files on the 80G RAID. I'm missing some speed (RAID100=FAST) but I'll live if the RAID fails.
Oh... and thank you Norton for making Ghost...moving the OS is SOOO easy!
