View Full Version : Will any USB A to A cable work as a data transfer cable? Comp to comp?

I'm looking for a way for my girlfriend to quickly transfer her files between her desktop and laptop. She has no NIC on the laptop... but has an easily accessable USB hub on the desktop.
On pricewatch, there are A to A 6' cables for a dollar. But, there are also products that seem similar for ~$50.
Any ideas? I'm trying to avoid wasting $$$... if a $10 part will do the deed.

i bought a game shark 2 for my ps2 which is essentially a pc usb connector. when i hooked it up to the computer, it showed up as an XLink. i found the software once, but i dont know what i did with it or where to get it again. but if you can find the software, you can pick up a gameshark 2 for about 20 bux
Don't do it unless you want dead USB ports or a dead motherboard. I don't remember why. The way to do it would be the $50 item. An even better way is 2 NICs and a crossover cable (~$35, much faster), or a null modem cable. (~$5, but slow and painfully unreliable)
