I felt it! That was so weird cuz I haven't been awake during a quake since the big one in 89. Didn't topple anything over, but definately felt odd.

most defintely you have been awake during a quake.. just that u prolly didnt notice it.. if ya check the usgs site, there have been a few minor 3 pointers on the 9th.. eh, no biggy.. brings back old times.. fun fun!
only thing im upset about is that.. this is probably some person's cruel joke.. give us a free rollercoaster ride.. but dont even give us a strong one.. and dont even make it last too long.. BOOHOO!

no, it's COOL to live someplace where the ground shakes. that's why people from cali are cool....they have earthquakes and then they brag about how they didn't care.
that proves that they are macho and tougher than the rest of us :heh:

lol, yeah. I think most people in Cali feel that way. After years of going through eventless earthquakes you kinda become desensitized to them.

i don't particularly enjoy earthquake, but they are interesting to go through. the big one of 89 didn't seem so bad, just long. of course i wasn't in san francisco or anything. i'd prefer earthquakes over other natural disasters though. seem less frequent.

I'd had a long day at work so I plunked down on the couch around 9:45 for a nap.
Woke up at ~10 because I felt some shaking, but since it didn't last too long, I thought it was caused by kids running down the hall, so went back to sleep.

We don't feel earthquakes in my part of Nor Cal...
We didn't even feel the one in '89. SF is a good 200 miles away. :hihi:

interesting how you wouldn't mind moving into a room where a girl will rock your world.. but you wouldn't move to a place where the earth will rock it.. i sense some bias here! :hmm:

Well, the quake was downgraded to a 4.9. I was in SF at the time of the 89' quake. I remember the whole day pretty clearly. (I think I've told this story here before already)
At my brother & uncle's computer company (in my dad's building). The front doors are made of glass. Some people had just removed it a few hours earlier to repair it.
I was in the computer showroom at the time. My sister and I were playing computer games. Then the tables began shaking, and I thought it was my sister or one of the employees messin with us. So I said stop it.. Realized it wasn't her, the electricity went out, and we all walked outside. Was pretty interesting seeing the streets roll literally, the powerlines, phone lines, and the power for buses swaying.. bricks on some houses cracked, cars on the street not knowing whats going on..
returning inside, i realized that my brother was still talking to a customer inside like nothing happened. an hour or so later, the guys that were fixing the door returned to place it back up. glad it wasn't there to shatter on us.
And I'd still take earthquakes over tornados or hurricanes. in earthquakes, the houses may burn, things may displace, houses may sink lower, bridges may break.. but houses don't get uprooted by some gusting wind, trucks dont get thrown miles away, etc.. at least its more likely to live through an earthquake than to live going directly through a tornado.. or so i assume..

I'd rather have none if possible.
Don't assume that every non-Californian lives in a place where tornados or hurricanes are gotten on a consistent basis. Thats not even close to being accurate. Hurricanes affect mainly the south eastern states like Florida and North Carolina.
As for tornados there are a good number of states that rarely get tornados-less often than California gets tornados.

To sum it up, if a person wants to live in a state where natural disasters are rare, California sure ain't the place to be. To pretend otherwise and keep bragging is bs. :dodgy:

But that really depends on where you live in California. We have never had a natural disaster where I live. About the only thing we have to worry about are wild fires, and they rarely come into the valley where I live.
When you have a state as big as California, there are plenty of places to live that don't have to deal with earthquakes on a regular basis.
