I'm so happy I had a chance to see Dr. Kent Cullers (http://www.seti.org/general/profiles/kent-c.html) presentation today! For those of you who don't know, he is the Director of R&D for the SETI institute.

He gave a great presentation, but sadly he had to endure some peons questions. my favorite stupid question, "don't you think that when the star (list some number here) went supernova and resultant wave hit us could have caused genetic mutations?" I wanted to go smack the guy.

What's really amazed me though is that he is completely blind. I didn't know that he was and I wasn't expecting that at all. (first i thought he had no notes cause i was up in the "nose bleed" section and wasn't able to see him too well. but then realized he was reading brailie off the table in front of him. :) )

All in all, it was fun. I'm tired and have to finish a paper. (this is what i get for having some fun today. :bawl: )

Ya I would have never guessed he was blind either :P

And I hate people that ask questions like that.

Another good question...

Dr. Cullers: Blah Blah ... Which is at about 600 cycles ... [2 minutes pass] ... Blah blah
Idiot: Excuse me, but how many cycles did you say?
Dr. Cullers: Cycles for...?
Idiot: You know, the thingy.
Person on other side of room: It's 600.
Idiot: I was asking Dr. Cullers, thank you very much!
Dr.Cullers: He's right.
Idiot: ... oh.

at this point I can only assume the idiot remembered that they are an idiot because they shut up.
